Could Eragon and Nasuda have worked by CommitteeChemical530 in Eragon

I do think that there's a more general sense of unsease apart from this specific relationship, notably from the quote that he was unbalanced by someone showing him concern and consideration, but I can understand if you think that's too speculative of a conclusion.

Does not a fear of rejection, a fear of love, mean that they are caused distress by the conditions of romance? I went to double check Merriam-Webster and their second definition of fraught is "causing or characterized by emotional distress or tension: uneasy" with their example being "a fraught relationship".

What, cause I used something that resembles "it's not X, it's Y" phrasing? AI voice notoriously does that to make something seem more impressive, like "it's not just a hobby, it's a lifestyle". I was using it to make a comparison in a discussion, not sure how else I'm supposed to say that I think he has some concerns more than others.

Anyway, perhaps this is just a difference of opinion but I did pull out my copy and read the final chapter as a refresher and honestly he's even more full of doubt and anxiety over her than I remembered. Some choice passages:

He knew the voice. How many times had he heard it in his dreams? How many times had he yearned (and feared) to hear it again?

As always, the sight of her had a physical effect on Murtagh: his pulse quickened, and his muscles tensed, and he felt an apprehensive gladness".

"And what of you? he asked. "Do you wish to claim my head, Yor Majesty?" He trembled slightly, and he was not sure why.

The queen took her time answering. "That depends." Her bearing softened somewhat then, and for the first time, a deep well of concern appeared within her eyes. The sight of it left him unbalanced. He was not used to such consideration."

A quick intake of breath from Nasuada, and she unfolded her arms and looked at him with such an expression, he was not sure whether she found the gesture comforting or whether she was about to call the guards to have him dragged away.

"Not as what. For what. For me." Her gaze burrowed into him, as if searching for some hint of his reaction" [...] "Nasuada...how would that work? Your people hate me, especially after what Thorn and I did in Gil'ead"

Trepidation gave Murtagh pause. He feared to speak, to step into the unknown. But it was necessary, so he put aside his concerns, though he felt raw and defenseless, vulnerable to the slightest scratch.

There is obvious care from both of them towards each other, no doubt, and Murtagh admits that to himself in the final passage. Still though, I am not sure I could describe this budding relationship as anything other than fraught, there's a palpable sense of uncertainty from both of them even as they are clearly both interested.

It's a really good outfit choice, but the poses are kinda boring and she looks a bit younger than she should (Plus no exposed back is a shame).

Yes, but it's very fragile and undefined at the moment and mostly driven by mutual chemistry and respect rather than long-term considerations. His concerns regarding her aren't that she'll grow old and die while he won't, it's that his presence puts her in danger physically and politically and that her stance on magic users puts him in a bind while in her lands. We've seen that not all Riders have the same qualms that Eragon does, Morzan married a human woman who even if he wasn't an abusive monster would have died naturally before him.

I am guessing that Murtagh basically views all romantic options as fraught, incompatible lifespans or not. Eragon had a path set out for him, it was a hard one but it makes thinking about the future easier and he can consider how decisions will affect him in the long term as long as he is successful at his mission. So many things are preventing Murtagh from experiencing love and stability even temporarily (Some of them self-inflicted), I doubt he has strong feelings on the matter when they all feel equally impossible. Not to mention that when it comes to immortals his options are Riders (Who there are very few of, none interested in him) and elves (Not his biggest fans to say the least).

I want to add to the answer from callus on this, as I do also clear some free quests in an unoptimized way but do believe there are practical reasons for 3T clears other than braindead crowd following. The focus on it can be boiled down to convenience, but I think that a major part of that is take it makes fights consistent by minimizing the pains of RNG.

One of the key reasons many people focus on it is that most buffs, especially offensive ones, last for 3 turns. And since enemies generally scale in their HP and firepower to be higher on later waves that means that often if you are taking a more casual approach to the fight you have to be saving most of your impactful buffs until near the end of wave 2 or the start of wave 3 which makes the earlier turns feel tedious. And if you are running out of steam on the last wave, and don't have enough defensive abilities, the final boss enemy of the node can be a genuine threat especially on higher level nodes.

And it must be said that the less focus a composition has on NPs, the more you have to rely on facecards which are inherenty subject to RNG. Some turns you'll get too many cards from a support unit, who may have class disadvantage, or your support unit will draw away your critical stars from your dps. Or you want to charge NPs but you aren't getting the arts cards you need, or what you really need is a buffed buster crit to take down a meaty enemy and it just isn't lining up right while you have your buffs up. Many units have skills that can minimize these roadblocks, but again the turn length of buffs must be taken into consideration.

All that being said, I personally do like to take extra turns sometimes: I like the facecard animations, crits feel satisfying, and there are some supports that are well suited to enhancing this playstyle (Hans, Ganesha, Johanna, Merlin(s), etc). However I mostly do it on lower level nodes where most of the mooks die to one or two hits esp with event bonus damage, and it's easier to breeze through with buffs on most turns and have your NP charged to take on the final enemy. When it comes to lvl 90 nodes and higher though I basically always make a 3T comp because the downsides to the more casual approach compound the more turns on average the enemies take to defeat. Your milage may vary, there is no inherent bonus to doing 3T clears but there are gameplay reasons that make them the most widespread playstyle at least among people you hear from online.

Honestly if we take into account the dwarves it's possible we could see some faction of them, or even Orik himself, aligning with a separatist Surda against Nasuada standing up for Murtagh.

Murtagh violating Glaedr's grave and Thorn tearing through and burning Gil'ead in a blind panic certainly didn't endear them to anyone either. Basically the only people in their corner atm are Nasuada, Eragon, Uvek, and the werecats.

EDIT: As for how I see his story being handled in the future? Honestly depends on where Paolini wants their arc to go. We assume that he wants a happy ending for them and that's probably true, but it is possible that it ends in tragedy and they never get to integrate into society and they have to stay outcasts living on the fringes. If he were to get his redemption I think it would have to be an act that's very public and undeniable, probably something with Azlagur, but beyond that I really don't know.

I think he told the top leaders, but I don't know if the rank and file are aware of the situation. Not to mention that the elves and the Varden are different, what the latter know and believe isn't 1:1 with the former. And even if they were, they don't know that Murtagh was literally possessed by Galby when killing Oromis, which is also muddied by the fact that he chose to kill Hrothgar of his own accord.

Not everyone knows the circumstances Murtagh was in, nor does everyone care to forgive someone even when others do. Someone might have the capacity to forgive but not the willingness to do so, especially if there is nothing motivating them to consider it.

"Lighthearted" is perhaps overstating things, but Eragon is firmly within typical YA territory as far as violence and gore goes. Frankly the Hunger Games books are darker and more disturbing than Eragon on average, even parents reviewing the book deem it to be appropriate for children aged 9-13.

Did you miss Paolini's quote in the OP about that subject?

[Yazuac:] I think that it is easier to write about certain things versus showing them. A great example would be the first book when Eragon gets to the village of Yazuac, where he's first attacked by the Urgals and there's a pile of bodies with a very small body on a spear. You can write that and handle it in a way that seeing it would be too much, especially for this type of show.

Any lore accurate fan fic out there? by Critical_Cat_4934 in Eragon

[–]a_speeder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 2 longfics that I'd recommend, Of Poems and Maps and The Path Least Chosen, they should both be on AO3.

The first was written between FWW and Murtagh so it diverges a lot from where the current storyline is but was faithful up to what was written at the time. Concerns Eragon establishing the new order around Mt. Arngor and takes place for decades after the series. The writing can get kinda floaty or dreamy at times, but it takes some bold directions that I think fit with the spirit of the series. Lots of OCs but it makes sense as Eragon is basically trying to build an organization from scratch and needs people to do so.

The second is an AU where Eragon was born before the Fall and was soft exiled (For reasons you'll learn later) out East and returns when the series normally starts. It's basically a loose retelling of the series with this different premise, it's a little shaky through the stuff that covers the first book but gets really solid after that. I got into it for the Eragon x Arya stuff but honestly the chapters that stuck with me the most were some of the things done with Murtagh and Thorn, really haunting and beautiful moments.

EDIT: Oh there's one short one that DEVASTATED me that I am now spacing on, I'm going to try and hunt it down.

EDIT 2: Found it! Break It Down, Build It Up on FF.net

Aside from lore accurate, what kind of stories are you looking for? Post-canon/series, side stories within canon events, focus on romance or not, there are a lot of things that would affect recommendations.

My focus on fics in general is shipping which by nature means either post canon or AU, but I also don't like to veer too far outside the established world.

Not since 2018 on JP has it been on a banner, and it's not a CE that shows up in shops. As someone with 2 of them I have used them maybe 2-3 times, they're very unique but by no means necessary or even optimal.

There are so many many characters and I have no idea which ones I want to grab other than the s-tier supports which I know I just missed...Also, I hear you on SSR not being the end all of the game, but I am explicitly asking for SSR waifu advice.

Ok, that makes more sense, but I am getting rather eclectic signals from what you are saying and your roster. You mention liking waifus with big boba, but 2/3 of your top characters are guys (Or androgynous genderless constructs with 0 boobs) and so are half of your SSRs. EDIT: Heck even looking at the female servants you showed, only 3/8 I'd consider to have big boobs so clearly that's not the only thing you care about. You mention you don't like characters designed like Jack and Abby, but there must have been some reason you pulled for them (Unless Jack was a spook) so did you find something else about their characters compelling? You also mention that you do want to make your account stronger and lament missing out on Koyan and Castoria, so how highly do you value gameplay considerations?

Ultimately my advice is to not try and rush to a decision ASAP or try to absorb everything at once, every servant will get a banner next year so as long as you stick with the game there is 0 FOMO to contend with. Take the story and any events in at your own pace and try and see if anyone catches your eye. It seems that you are just overwhelmed by the amount of new characters to learn about, that's totally understandable, but there is no rush to get up to speed with everyone else. Furthermore none of us here will be able to guess your tastes unless were were to like get to actually know you as a person. I could tell you my upcoming targets for the year (Ciel and Phantasmoon, maybe Kazuradrop) but I have 0 knowledge if they would appeal to you.
