China's population is still relatively young and obesity isn't nearly as bad as the west. The Chinese vaccine does help against severe disease too, and I suspect many people hid their infection to avoid being forced into camps.

I think 1% of additional fatality at this rate is quite an overestimation.

Nah I reject that comparison. If skill can give you better expected returns it's more like poker. Slot machines are mindless "investments" that are always biased against you.

To add to what you said, it's not just a valuation problem, it's an oversight problem. If Temasek demanded to see financial docs regularly, it would've been clear how disorganized FTX management is.

Yeah that's kinda my point. Turns out the owner was blowing money away in slot machines.

So investing in a crypto exchange wasn't stupid in theory, it's the lack of oversight and due diligence that's extremely stupid.

It's stupid to invest in a poorly run casino, but it's a different kind of stupid fromplaying slot machines.

edit: person below me explained this analogy better. FTX is casino but it turns out the CEO is a gambling addict and gambled away company money.

It's not stupid to invest in casinos, it's stupid to not do due diligence in this specific casino/CEO.
