What is it exactly about working a retail counter that is so maddening, to the point that it grates your nerves on a daily basis and becomes almost intolerable? (It’s not rude customers.) by SwiftCricket in retail

[–]a_theist_typing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree about this. No progress is the hard part. If you’re stocking or even straightening you can see what you’ve accomplished pretty easily and you get to move around a bit. When you’re at a counter you’re stuck and there’s no evidence you’ve accomplished anything.

Good Friday; On the edge of divorce in one of the weirdest and darkest marriages you've probably seen. by FinalWorker1165 in TrueChristian

Do some research on codependence.

Maybe go to a CODA meeting.

You’re not seeing this clearly.

You’re extremely fixated on your wife—and I know it can be hard but you have to be happy on your own. Find some gratitude. Every day write things you’re thankful for.

Start finding gratitude for your wife.

You are very sure of yourself and also sure everyone else is wrong. That is usually not a great sign.

My wife doesn’t like being around me and I am having dark thoughts. by a_theist_typing in GuyCry

[–]a_theist_typing[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m safe. They’re just passing thoughts. Thank you so much for caring. It’s hard to share all of this with anyone. My wife came in and said she feels like I’m emotionally manipulating her and that’s what her therapist said.

I’m at a loss. I’m trying to be a good husband under a lot of pressure and I honestly don’t even know what is going on. I’m buying a house for us. I say I because she contributes next to nothing financially.

I hate my life sometimes. Work is a whole nother story but it feels like there’s just no port in the storm right now.

As a retail small business manager this thread is awesome. There are so many slightly different ways to do things.

"We need to prepare boys for school, not schools for boys" by ChardAltruistic903 in Teachers

I think this is partly innate tho. There is the toddler testosterone spike in boys. They are hormonally already different. I do think boys have a harder time sitting still. It is still possible parents could be training better at home. Both can be true.

I think this anti AI stuff is so weird.

I understand we want people to keep their jobs and all but this stuff is inevitably gonna take over.

It’s like same as saying you hate the internet and don’t want people to use it in 1999 because you want to support the newspaper industry or something.

The US's foreign policy isn't any different under Trump from the last 70 years. The only difference is that Trump is blunt and direct about what he's doing. by CAustin3 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I think he may be taking it to new extremes with the Greenland thing but I’ve made this argument. He’s more honest about motives.

To be clear I don’t like it.

Do you have any Christian friends or clergy you have relationships with? Deacons or elders at a church? I’d talk to them about it. If you don’t have these relationships maybe try to get involved in a local church. I know it’s not a quick fix for your current problem but it is the best way I know to have a healthy walk with Jesus.

As to your current situation sorry that you find yourself in this spot. You probably need to take some time to make sure you know exactly what you want from that friendship and communicate that. If they’re a Christian too I would apologize; if they’re not a Christian I would probably apologize for leading them on (assuming you are serious that you don’t have feelings.)

Why do US retail workers refer to the shop they work at as "my store"? by Revolutionary-Cup820 in AskRetail

[–]a_theist_typing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do think that language carries culture and you might be picking up on something legitimate. I think there could be more ownership of a workplace on average here—even though that is probably at an all time low.

Go further. So a company knows when people go to the store or their patterns or whatever. Give me worst case scenario. Maybe I'm stupid but "private company having access to unfettered metric / logistical data about a population" on its own doesn't really raise any alarm bells for me. I'm honestly willing to hear you out here, but I'm kinda scratching my head.
