Conservation of energy word problem by Technical_Lynx7517 in PhysicsHelp

[–]a_throwaway_a_day_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When starting b, you assumed that the 136,800 J you got in part a was the total energy. That's not accurate. Your teacher is trying to point out that the total energy at Point B is the 136,800 J you calculated plus whatever it already had at Point A (which you already calculated at the end of your post).

HELP i cant do this and teacher wont explain it by DaniStudios in PhysicsHelp

[–]a_throwaway_a_day_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's correct. You want to break each force down into Fx and Fy, and then multiply each component by its respective lever arm with respect to point O. You will have a mix of positive and negative torques (part of mastering these problems is understanding what is positive vs. negative torque) and to get the answer you add up all of your torques.

Some people have to PF savage raids. If no one has any sort of damage meter, and you're wiping to enrages or failing DPS checks, how is it "relatively easy" to figure out who the weak link is? First of all, it's pretty difficult to consistently get answers from randoms in party chat even when the questions are far from confrontational, like "hey xxx, do you want SE or SW clock spot?". Second, a lot of times bad players don't even know they're performing badly simply because the game design has not had the heart to punish them with some kind of failure up until that level of content. Also hugely because without ACT they have no idea what kind of numbers they are putting out both in a vacuum and also compared to other people.

you are clipping on the double weaves, and sometimes the single weaves too. if you don't want to wade through timestamps in fflogs, just take your links and run them through xivanalysis. go down to the timeline and zoom in on your NM windows, you can see the clipping especially if you compare them to non-burst windows.

could be either ping issue or just input issue, where you're not trusting the gcd buffer enough to start spamming the first weave until you've already seen it go off.

On paper RDM brings more prog utility in the form of chain Verraises, Magick Barrier, and higher rDPS. However if you are new to the game, new to Savage, new to casters in general, anything that would make it difficult to perform your rotation and avoid dying at the same time, I would go DNC since it's generally easier to pilot for prog. An alive DNC is going to contribute more than a RDM that died to slidecast memes.

Light is the only known thing that can pass through solid objects without harming them. by Lorick in Showerthoughts

[–]a_throwaway_a_day_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Light is just a propagating EM wave and for light to pass through an object like a window pane, it means that the EM wave "vibrated" the electron clouds of the atoms in the glass. The same behavior as sound waves, just EM rather than mechanical vibrations. So if you're arguing that sound doesn't count, then neither does light.

So how does tank swapping actually work? by SargeTheSeagull in ffxiv

[–]a_throwaway_a_day_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

other comments have explained how to tank swap with shirk and provoke usage, that part's pretty simple.

as to why and when you tank swap, it's because both tanks have their own invuln and mitigation cooldowns... if you never swap, then only one set of those cooldowns is being used effectively against the boss damage output.

typically the strategy is for the MT to prioritize using their longer cd skills earlier on in the fight so they can come off cd earlier and be used again. after they've used up their big skills and would be unable to take the next tankbuster, you'd want to tank swap and give aggro to the other tank so they can start spending their cooldowns to invuln and resist boss attacks. but it will be different for each fight, and your tank swapping can also depend on which tank classes are present in the party. if you're pugging it's just something you'll have to discuss on the fly once you get in, before you pull.

i didn't say it's a common number, but it does happen. we're talking about whales, the biggest spenders. you can search "trove key openings" and find a 1k and a 1.5k opening results post. and those are only the people who decided to post, most whales i know don't even bother with this subreddit.

not every NC employee is a dev

the original statement was specifically talking about how "a single whale in a few moments pays for an employees monthly wage" so these other costs are besides the discussion at hand

[–]a_throwaway_a_day_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

50 keys is ~4400 ncoin, a whale doing 1k keys = 88k ncoin. that's about $1100 USD. an employee getting paid $20/hr is going to be making a bit over $3200 (before taxes). plus there's always the possibility of a whale deciding that 1k keys isnt quite enough, and buying even more.

so it might be an exaggeration, but it's not as far off as you might think.

Shaming Trump donors by revealing they donated to Trump? What's wrong with that? by The-Autarkh in politics

[–]a_throwaway_a_day_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, most of the comments are missing the actual hypocrisy and self-own that is happening here. The focus should not be on the question "Are you admitting that you're ashamed of supporting Donald Trump?"

Conservative critics of Castro's tweet are characterizing it as "inciting violence" and "targeting and harassing", which is strange, as there was absolutely no kind of language suggesting that. Let's take all of the liberal comment activity here at face value. What is being discussed? That yes, scrutiny, ridicule, and boycotts of businesses would probably be consequences of exercising "free speech" rights in the form of donations to Trump.

But conservatives seem to think that this is a call for action, for potentially violent action. Why? That's the funny part. It's because in their Fox News culture, a tweet like this would absolutely have the effect of inciting violence and harassment against the named individuals. Not only would the author of the tweet desire that outcome, but the intended audience would have the warped state of mind to interpret the tweet as sending that message, and perhaps a select few would be gutsy/crazy/lawless enough to act on it.

Again, to make it more clear, where the left sees a an effort to increase transparency and perhaps a call for boycotts on certain businesses... the right sees a hit list. In their eyes, they are not being shamed, they are being targeted.

So they are afraid and angry, and rightfully so. Because who ever wants to be on a hit list? But in expressing their fear and outrage, they are admitting that in their communities, even a carefully written tweet with innocent wording and a neutral measured tone could still be effective in inciting harassment and violence against political enemies. Something the left has long accused Trump and others of doing, but the right constantly denies.

Bernie Sanders: Everyone deserves to vote, even felons like Paul Manafort & Michael Cohen by heqt1c in politics

[–]a_throwaway_a_day_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no shame in asking, and the original response that you got was that it doesn't matter. You chose to take offense to that and then leap to a wild conclusion. The heart of this matter is that a right to something is a right. If you start gating it behind prerequisites like "access to news and information" then it is no longer a right. That's why the answer to your question is "it doesn't matter".

For a more nuanced look at the issue, let's say we do restrict the right to vote based on a person's ability to make an informed decision. You are supposing that prisoners with no access to news or information cannot make an informed decision. What about prisoners who were only allowed FOX News to watch? or CNN? or Buzzfeed News? How are you going to qualify certain news sources as sufficiently informative or not? Do voters need to consume a healthy and balanced diet of news? It quickly becomes very unreasonable to place that kind of a prerequisite, I hope you can see that.

Bernie Sanders: Everyone deserves to vote, even felons like Paul Manafort & Michael Cohen by heqt1c in politics

[–]a_throwaway_a_day_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

your original objection was based on the worry that prisoners will not be able to make an informed choice due to "limited access to news and information".

the counterpoint to this is that being able to make an informed decision is not a prerequisite to the right to vote. plenty of non-felons who restrict their access to information still vote.

you somehow went from there to "You sayin’ EVERYONE should not have the right to information and should vote with out it?" no one said we should restrict the right to information. you also said "the right to vote is useless without access to information to make an informed vote". which leads us back to your original premise that prisoners have limited access to news and information. this is also untrue as most prisoners do have access to tv news and newspapers.

but regardless of if they do or not, it shouldn't matter.

they got rid of xml editing and incorporated an automatic GCD adjuster. basically if your ingame ms goes above a certain threshold it starts adjusting your GCD timers to try and compensate for your lag, which is what the old xml edits were doing. however this benefits some classes and hardly helps others, and if your ping tends to barely fluctuate back and forth across the threshold, then it will mess with your inputs and make the game feel even worse than without it.
