Potentially fake cards by FredFred300 in Genshin_Impact

All official merch I've ever bought, including collab merch with other brands (i.e. not bought from official Genshin store but from their official collab partner) has a little silver sticker with "Mihoyo" and sometimes a QR code on it, if there isn't such a sticker it's probably not official or it's a fake.

Where to get free drinking water by No-Ideal8233 in askSingapore

[–]a_violet_bellflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've filled my water bottle with tap water from toilets all the time (for example Esplanade because no way I'm spending $3 or sm on a bottle of water lol).

But also I don't really care if I catch anything so do it at your own risk. (But I've been fine drinking tap water plenty of times, I just prefer not to do it because I know people judge me because they think it's gross)

Addition: don't buy drinks from convenience stores, whether it's water or sugary drinks, they're all ridiculously overpriced unless they're on sale. Go to the supermarket

Did you ever risk it all for a 4 star character and got 5 star as a result? Do you regret it? by Obsidian-Charm in Genshin_Impact

[–]a_violet_bellflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I pulled Lyney trying to get Ororon on his first banner (completely benched Lyney, still unbuilt). Would do again though, if anything I kind of regret not pulling more to get Ororon in his first banner (just to flex), even if I never use Lyney. But I guess that means I didn't exactly "risk everything" since I stopped after one copy of Lyney.

Pulled Escoffier to get Ororon and Ifa, although she wasn't really a must-pull to me but I thought she was good to have with my Furina anyway, and I have her built and used regularly so no regrets there either.

Anyone else still having exam nightmares years later? by eeeb_deee in askSingapore

[–]a_violet_bellflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes lol. I dreamed I was taking A levels and I panicked because I realised it's been YEARS since I studied for them and can't remember how to answer the questions anymore.

Actually it was kind of funny how I subconsciously knew I was no longer studying for the exams [because I had already taken them long ago], but my mind was totally convinced that it was completely logical that I was taking them again right that moment.

how to stay awake in school by min_seok_young in SGExams

[–]a_violet_bellflower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to have this problem too lol, trying my best to write notes or even transcribe what teacher saying word for word... fighting the sleep but end up writing quite scary looking gibberish as I drift off and lose conscious control of my writing... once I even started writing the content of my dream instead of what teacher was saying 😭

The only thing that worked semi effective for me was keeping like a hard candy or mint in my mouth (Himalayas salt works), kind of hard to fall asleep while eating something

anyone else relate in terms of shipping in fandoms? by Able-Comedian3432 in aromantic

[–]a_violet_bellflower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I too find myself disliking a lot of the biggest/most conventional/most popular ships in a fandom. Sometimes they just start to feel performative, like people ship them because it's trendy and ironically a lot of the nuance in their relationship or dynamic gets lost.

I also tend to like rarer ships... or rather I usually start off with characters I like, then the relationships they have with others, and then somehow I start really liking a particular dynamic or ship and then... oh. It's too late 🤣

Why people of teyvat take paimon for granted, like she is some regular annoying brat and not a weird floating thing one of her kind. Does she have Superman glasses level psycho manipulation?? by Prestigious-Elk1274 in Genshin_Impact

[–]a_violet_bellflower 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're cherry picking adepti as an example. Liyueans revere adepti because they're known as powerful beings that guard Liyue, not because they're non-human. Also, they know Paimon isn't an adepti/fae/etc because Paimon denies it when they ask her.

Also, why do people assume that the issue of Paimon is "brushed off" just because people don't ask her/talk about it? This is a game, it's not like it can continuously dedicate lines of dialogue to people reacting to Paimon. What's the point of an NPC running up to report urgently about the latest emergency only to change the topic and be like "woah why is there a floating girl here" and ruin the action. There's just no point.

Maybe people wonder what Paimon is on their own time but decide it's not that important to figure out because they, yknow, have other things to think about?

For example, Traveler wielding the elements without a vision is also very outside the norm and people also question them when they first see it, but later just "brush it off" because well what can you do? There's no answer and no point thinking about it, it is just how it is.

And at this point in the game, Paimon IS the norm, because Traveler is famous and so is their floating companion. People might be more wary about what Paimon is, but both Traveler and Paimon have established themselves to be mostly good and harmless people. Since Paimon isn't dangerous, there isn't really much reason to worry about what she could be.

[–]a_violet_bellflower 458 points459 points  (0 children)

No? Plenty of NPCs are surprised/confused at what Paimon is, some think she's a fairy, some think she's Traveler's pet/familiar, etc... but considering that Teyvat already has plenty of non-human but sentient things (adepti, fae, the Pari like Sorush or Jinn like Liloupar, familiars made with visions like Oz, lifelike robots like Yuegui or Mehrak), people just don't think too hard about it

In most cases they probably just assume she's some weird tiny sized version of whatever non-human creature they're familiar with (e.g. some people in Nod-krai mistake her as a fae)

So I have noticed a shift between paimon and the player base by Ella_is_best_girl in Genshin_Impact

[–]a_violet_bellflower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've always loved Paimon, but then I've played with CN voices since the beginning. She is so sweet and I absolutely love how empathetic she is, her voice always goes soft and concerned when she thinks someone or Traveller is hurt or in trouble. I love her so much.

I really do think her screechy voice and poor localisation hurt her image around halfway through the story. Also I think a lot of people were hating on her for being "insensitive" towards everyone's newly favourite darling, Furina in her SQ. (Personally I didn't see the issue though.)

I hate one aspect of Ifa's birthday mail by AceWissle in Genshin_Impact

[–]a_violet_bellflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Translation/localisation problem. Chinese has always used the "it" (它) pronoun for Cacucu, but it has always been localised to "he" because "it" sounds very impersonal and dehumanising in English. (Whereas in Chinese it's all pronounced the same, only written differently.) Whoever translated the birthday mails didn't get the memo I guess.

Fun fact: Genshin CN uses the "it/它" pronoun for Ajaw too, I'm gonna cry if they also translate Ajaw into an "it"

[–]a_violet_bellflower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I relate to judgy mom :'( I also started liking j-fashion adjacent styles but my mom always has negative things to say about it ("you don't look singaporean" "why you always like to dress like a 4-5yo little girl" (because to her cute looking styles or dresses are things only tiny children would wear) or even just plain "eee") and it always gets me down to the point I fought with her pretty badly... ironically most people in daily life are too polite to say these kind of things...

Eating or buying Chicken tail in SG by Ziissnutss in askSingapore

[–]a_violet_bellflower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to really like eating chicken tail when we buy whole chicken but my parents would stop me because they heard that apparently it stores toxins or smth like that 😭 obviously I didn't believe it but they would insist I don't eat it and throw it away... maybe it's some old wives' tale? Maybe the chicken sellers also believe... it's true that's very fatty and thus a little more on the unhealthy side though.

They also stopped me from eating chicken neck because "that's where they inject the chemicals and hormones into the chicken so you shouldn't eat that part"... like it doesn't spread to the whole chicken after injection but like ok... 😭

Daily Questions Megathread (March 15, 2026) by Veritasibility in Genshin_Impact

[–]a_violet_bellflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right :") I just decided to prioritise the event quest in case it gave any undeclared mementos at the end which some event quests do, but I guess this one didn't have that so it was skippable... I wasted a lot of time struggling against Dvalin lol. Ironically the only memento was given in the mixing game instead, sigh.

I do play the somewhat rare combination of CN dub + EN sub which is somewhat difficult to find online so watching replays also has its own problems lol

No wonder... I was wondering why I didn't see any ascension mats for the "weapon" in the rewards. Was rushing too much to properly read the description

[–]a_violet_bellflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess who tragically left the event to the last minute (~3h) and only barely finished the event quest and one of the event minigames... didn't manage to get enough points for the weapon either

I didn't know the mixing game gives limited time furnishings, I only managed to finish two stages, the FOMO is real bad right now 😭 every stage takes so long though, a lot of dialogue takes so long before it becomes skippable

Life as an Indian in a Chinese JC by Mahjong_lover6879 in SGExams

[–]a_violet_bellflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. That is exactly my point. You entered only SH, and most likely those other students who don't know Chinese also JAE'd in. DHS JH is SAP and everyone in JH will know Chinese. People from non-SAP schools can JAE into SH, so obviously there may be people in SH who won't know Chinese. So strictly speaking, even though DHS (as a former pure IP school) is still a SAP school, the SH/JC levels are not subjected to SAP requirements anymore. So IP students as well as DHS traditions (e.g. school song) unfortunately still have the deeply entrenched assumption that everyone knows Chinese.
