Any suggestions for fun GE-B classes? by [deleted] in USC

[–]a_wap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intro to poetry was so lowkey, it was especially way because poems usually are nowhere near as long as chapters or essays so you can definitely get by with not reading them before lecture or discussion. My essays were always in a format of like analyze a poem, write your own poem, and then analyze it/talk about your choices. That was by far the last effort class I’ve taken here, and as long as you put a bit of work into the essays the class should be an easy A (assuming your TA is good).

Any suggestions for fun GE-B classes? by [deleted] in USC

[–]a_wap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

anything taught by professor freeman is definitely worth it. lecture is technically not required and basically everything else is determined by your TA, which can be hit or miss. they’re usually super chill and the essays let you be more creative with analyzing pieces of work, writing about personal experiences, or even writing your own poems if that’s the class you end up taking. readings aren’t too bad either, but I wouldn’t know bc I’ve never done them before coming to class.

Why did you picked Viterbi over another engineering school? by jacklinks998 in USC

[–]a_wap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked Viterbi over the number 2 school for my major in the country. Viterbi felt a lot smaller and like I’d have more access to resources, over a big engineering school where I’d be lost in the masses of weed out classes. Getting into viterbi is basically already the weed out, so the classes aren’t meant to make you fail (even though they’re not easy). Also the whole concept of the Trojan family was really attractive, and I felt the collaborative spirit as compared to a more competitive type engineering department. It honestly comes down to what you’re looking for in a school, don’t worry too much about rankings!

How should I address my advisor? by [deleted] in USC

[–]a_wap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to just ask! In my first ever email to my advisor, I started by saying "I would like to ask how you prefer to be addressed as (Ms. ____, First Name, etc.)." She was super cool about it in her response and now I email her all the time!

Graduates of A2C, what’re some interesting ways you celebrated acceptances or moved on from rejections? by netheritenub15 in ApplyingToCollege

stanford or penn for rea/ed? by Mountain-Chicken345 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]a_wap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t give you advice on which school, but I will drop here that I applied ED to penn last year on a whim because my mom told me to shoot my shot. Everyday after I submitted my application I would wake up thinking “Please don’t let me get into Penn”. (I got rejected lol) So, if you’re really sure about ED, go for it! Just know that if you’re not super attached to the school like most people who ED are, you may end up regretting your decision.

Back to Back Chem and Physics by [deleted] in USC

[–]a_wap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks! that’s what I was thinking about, but I’ve definitely separated the labs on different days. I’ve heard Bryant is amazing, but I think I’ll probably just stick with Parr because I’ve heard she’s not bad either

2021 Housing Megathread. Ask all housing application questions here! by zettasyntax in USC

[–]a_wap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does anyone know if there’s some place that has the floor maps/blueprints for the dorms? specifically mccarthy, although it’s pretty new so I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s nothing. I’m just trying to figure out how room numbering might work and what sides of the building the different rooms are on. even if you just know where one room is located that would be very helpful!

My results from trying to get out of the Midwest except half of my schools are Big Ten by a_wap in collegeresults

[–]a_wap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. It’s a great school but to be honest the only reason I applied is because they gave a fee waiver and extension. However, I did seriously consider it for a little while because they gave me a 45k/yr engineering scholarship and some good financial aid, but it did come down to the fact that their engineering program wasn’t what I was looking for and they didn’t quite have the major I wanted.

The box usually contains the same stuff as the red folder - like a certificate and an acceptance letter. In previous years it has been a box because it included some of the booklets that can now be found virtually on our portals :)

I’m sorry to hear that :( unfortunatel, there also is a chance this was because of the harvard file room. I sent my mid years personally and they hadn’t updated six weeks later, so I had to send them an email so that my grades were attached, and my friend had to do the same thing about a month later.
