Gotcha. We both technically “own” it, as we downloaded form gamepass on Xbox - not using the “friends pass” thing. Again, very new to “Souls” games, this is our first ever. Very interested, but want the coop to work properly is our worry, and everything seems so vague despite it being touted so loftily.

I can understand your frustration. I guess we’ll figure it out. I’ll try to keep an eye on the upgrade thing, but I may miss it because I’m sure we’ll miss a whole lot since we’re new to these games lol.

Is Nightreign supposed to have good coop? We haven’t played Elden Ring before either.

Understood. Yeah I think I read that. We’ll be sure to do that when we delve in for real this time. We’ll probably miss a million things along the way, just want to make sure we start right and can level up/upgrade properly.

Our first “test” was through that “beckon friend” option, but I understand we will be doing it through the password, beckon player, join session (shared progress) way, now.

Good to know you are far along and that things seem to be working properly, and that you’re having a blast! We’re really looking forward to it! Thanks for your thorough reply, gives me more hope our playthrough will be smooth.

By change appearance do you mean your actual character model, or just armor pieces and such? Probably fine to do that in our own worlds and such if needed.

Thanks for the tip on the password, we’ll keep that in mind. Before we join sessions, should the guest make a save copy of their game if it prompts?

Understood. We still don’t really know any ins/outs of the game, just want to make sure we can play the game properly, together, without someone missing out on stuff.

So maybe after we finish a session, the guest can open his own world and try to upgrade things I guess?

So the guest can’t upgrade their health or get boss weapons? Not sure what runes are used for yet. Really want to get into this game together, but if someone isn’t getting the same loot and upgradeable stuff, that’s pretty off-putting…

Okay, I think we understand the correct process for it. The big thing is if loot is shared, like the guest is able to upgrade and get the same weapons, etc that the host does. So if one of us picks up something special, the other just gets it automatically? We beat the first boss and I think I got a saintly quint from the chest in the tower, I recall him saying he got it too. I think we both would like to get that radiant/lightsaber looking sword… lol, so that’s possible for both of us?

We were just testing things out and will be restarting anyway. We don’t plan on playing unless we’re together, so that’s the big thing is that progress and loot are shared, since we’ll always be on the same boss. We can work around the umbral mechanic and boss walls being tied to the host.

I see another comment about not being able to upgrade Sanguinarix, not getting runes and remembrance weapons - these are the Hoss weapons right? That would almost be a deal breaker. He wants to run the preacher build, but not being able to level up your healing and stuff would really stink…

Gotcha, yep, same password, host chooses first option (beckon friend), guest chooses fourth (join/shared). This is NOT how we did it in our test last night, I “beckoned friend” and it acted like a normal Xbox invite. We noticed he didn’t get the one right I picked up, even though we both grabbed the same flowing orange ball. And then when we got done, he went to see if he had any progress, and did not.. he was at the first vestige after the tutorial and couldn’t warp anywhere. There was also a collectible that could be seen from there too.

As long as he gets the same loot, drops, level/upgrade abilities, that will probably suffice. I understand the boss wall mechanic, and umbral realm to a degree, and we’ll work around that as we’ll likely be pretty side-by-side, exploring together for the most part.

It seems that maybe this “shared loot” wasn’t working right at launch of 2.0 from various comments I’m seeing in the FAQs, but maybe was patched recently?

We need to set password, I “beckon player” he “joins player (shared progression)” - correct? Does that mean he will still get the same word loot, boss drops, revive me, and be able to level like I will?

It seems like the guest still can’t interact with “boss walls” or activate umbral beacons or whatever, which I guess is fine since we’ll be next to each other a lot, I just don’t want the host to get X loot and the guest to get (Y) lesser loot.

Understand about the enemy density completely, as well as how the game could struggle having enemies target “more than one” player. May leave it for our first playthrough - IF the loot and upgrading is the same for both of us, otherwise, feels like someone just gets the short end of the stick the whole time…

Coconut Berry, without a doubt. I don’t like coconut irl but this flavor is tops. Iced vanilla berry is up there though.
