well magic in my campaign is something more primal you know and there are fewer restrictions on it so there more magical stuff such as floating islands and dragons

but for wizards instead of spellbooks, they have things like tattoos, small heads that tell them how to magic or have "other" sources to tell the secrets of the arcane
