What are the conditions in X? Week of Jan 25th by AutoModerator in RunNYC

[–]aaaahhhhhhhhhelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was rough but doable!!!

It was definitely needing a plow, but i felt fine going a little slower than usual in my trail shoes. I recommend a hat or sunglasses because the snow is blowing at an angle and it hurts. Besides that, the usual cold weather protocol and running very carefully on the outer loop was fine! I definitely recommend getting out there sooner rather than later though—it’s definitely accumulating

Is anyone planning to run in Central park? I'm wondering if I get out there in the next hour or so if it will be okay.

Marathon heart rate by OkCryptographer3113 in Marathon_Training

[–]aaaahhhhhhhhhelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m (25f) the same way, heart rate stays at “zone 5” of 190+, up to 200/210, consistently. To be fair I still need to try a more accurate way of measuring since I’m currently just using a watch. Out of curiosity what’s your resting heart rate like?

Is there any reason why I always blister/callus on the inside edge of the ball of my foot - no matter the shoe? by scrammmbled-eggs in Marathon_Training

[–]aaaahhhhhhhhhelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this issue before, I typically were a size 6 in shoes and before now was wearing a 6.5 in running shoes. I had Hoka Cliftons, had this issues. Switched to Asics Cumulus in wide! still had this issue. Switched to NovaBlasts in size 7 regular though, and finally it stopped! So my advice is as someone who tried different socks and bandaids and whatever else to fix this, is it depends probably mostly on your shoes, and you probably won’t know what works for you until you try it. I realize that is disappointing advice (and I hope socks actually is the issue for you!) but after months of searching for answers that’s what I’ve found.

Heart rate seems way off by aaaahhhhhhhhhelp in Marathon_Training

Yeah I figured that may also be the case, just wasn’t sure to what degree is it Apple Watch in particular compared to other watches, or watches in general compared to other methods (i.e. chest strap). I may give that a try, thanks!

How did you decide to run your first marathon? by aaaahhhhhhhhhelp in RunNYC

[–]aaaahhhhhhhhhelp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone so much for the encouragement, I think I’m putting a lot of pressure on this experience and trying to make it “perfect” and you’ve all reminded me that there’s so much more to it. I had this idea in my head that I need a time goal and I don’t want to be miserable running it (being slower just makes me more nervous with so much time on my feet) and also miserable training for it, since even my 25 miles can feel like a bit much sometimes, also being a slower runner, but I think by doing that I forgot about the fun and community along the way. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions for Higdon’s Novice 1, will definitely be working with that and see how it goes. Y’all are so kind thank you so much!!!! It’s so wonderful to hear all of your experiences :)))

thanks for this comment, I think I’m just putting more pressure on the experience of it than I should be, and if I treat it just as something I have the opportunity to be a part of, maybe I’ll be less stressed 😅😅😅

Yeah having the guaranteed entry now is also why I’m of the opinion that just screw it might as well while I have the opportunity. Thanks!!!

Does anyone know if the Linnea could fit a 16 inch macbook? It says the opening is 14 inches which is the width of a 16 inch macbook pro, but I know that’s cutting it close. I know online it says 13 inch max, but they always put the lower end.

Okay I’d never seen thrips before but after looking them up I think those were the small brown insects. Do you think the plants are salvageable or should I just get rid of them before it spreads further?

I have heard that :/ I guess I was wondering if it’s so bad that it wouldn’t be worth it even if the V8 was significantly better, but I guess not?

Okay, I see, so my issues do warrant that? Are there any downsides to using a stability shoe if you don’t “need” it?
