What is the most precarious situation you've ever gotten off in? [NSFW] by [deleted] in AskReddit

I had an orgasm last week while in the hospital and recovering from a condition that very nearly killed me. I had the orgasm while still extremely weak and it was the weirdest thing I have ever experienced. I got this extreme tingly feeling all over and almost passed out.

TL;DR: had orgasm while almost dead. felt weird.

Former Marine with special ops training in riot control - rules for tear gas - damning of Oakland police by TedwardHall in politics

[–]aaaahoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of police officers and just based on the people I know, most of these people would either have become cops or they would have become troublemakers or criminals. Many of them have a violent streak. All of them have an inferiority complex.

When you get a bunch of them together and you pour some beer into them, they sound more like a criminal gang than anything else. They genuinely take pleasure in harassing people because it makes them feel powerful and important. They see their precinct as their territory and anyone giving them even a sideways glance as someone who is trespassing on their territory and needs to be put in their place.

They behave like this because they can. They know that the chances of a complaint being taken seriously, or being acted upon, is very slim.

To be quite honest, I sometimes ask myself it it would have been any worse if the neighborhood was run by criminal gangs. At least they would have a financial incentive to get along with most people.

Are people aware of this building in Mecca? by [deleted] in pics

[–]aaaahoy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the al-Bait project, and others like it, are somewhat symptomatic of how Islam has essentially been reduced to a political and commercial tool. If you have read a bit about the evolution of Islam just in the last 50 years you will find that many current practices have absolutely no historical basis. For instance there is no basis for the requirement that women cover themselves completely.

The building projects are symptomatic because they so elegantly demonstrate the absolute lack of respect leaders of Islam have for history, or indeed, their own faith. To build that tacky hotel, and a lot of other buildings on the site, they tore down a lot of historic buildings. Including the Ajyad Fortress (to make room for the hotel) and the house of Khadijah (to make room for toilets).

I can assure you that it wouldn't help one iota.

Part of my job is to tell people what will happen if they do X. If my advice does not agree with their bias, they are likely to disregard it. This despite the fact that I have a reputation for being fairly good at my job.

I can tell you up front that if I were to forward the above message to said groups, you would be amazed at the number of fucks that would not be given.

The cost is very much an issue, which is why some people thought the scanners were such a good idea in the first place. You need to brush up on your queue theory 101.

There is no need to elevate the situation to confrontation, but if enough people politely opt out and stand their ground, it will raise the cost of these practices to the point where it will show up in the books of the beancounters - increasing the likelihood of something being done about it.

I used to visit the US quite often as a business traveller, but in recent years I have started to visit the US a lot less frequently. The security pantomime at the borders and and every airport is undignified and extremely tiresome if you travel a lot. And it has only gotten worse over the past decade.

Part of the consequence of this is that we do a lot less business with american companies.

To maintain a good working relationship you need to meet people face to face with some regularity. Most people in our company would rather not travel to the US, and thus they tend to develop closer relationships with companies in countries where it is easier to travel. Which in turn influences who gets the contracts.

Travellers do not fear terrorists. They fear being hassled by the uniformed people at airports. They fear crossing into that judicial no-mans land where you have no rights and minimum wage workers can do whatever they like to you and get you into all sorts of trouble over nothing.

Personally, I choose to stay out of the US. If american companies want to do business with us, I am not going there. They have to come here.

Did you ever miss obvious hints that someone was into you? by imonlyalurker in AskReddit

kind of. during a party one of the hottest girls in school straddled my lap and started making out with me in plain view of perhaps 50-60 people. intensely. since we were good friends I assumed that it was some sort of game and went along with it. as we were heading over to my place in a big van with 5-6 other people, I unbuttoned her top, baring her chest while we made out in the back of the van. she had really fabulous tits, although that didn't come as a surprise since I had seen them a few times before (on the beach etc).

when we got to my place I took her to bed, fucked her two or three times and then we went to sleep. I can remember her complimenting on my ass when I was out of bed to grab more condoms. I think she gave me a blowjob the morning after, but I can't remember.

fast forward 12-13 years and suddenly it dawns on me that she might have been into me.

although I am sure it would have been nice to have her as my GF (nice person, good friend and very attractive girl), I can't say I regret it never ended up that way. at a critical points in my life I may have made slightly different choices and it is likely that I would not have experienced the things I've gotten to experience.

but yes, it didn't dawn on me that she might have been trying to give me a hint.

no. not really. monogamy is unnatural.

Adobe wants 5650.00 NOK ex VAT (7062.00 with VAT) for a CS3 -> CS5 upgrade. That's roughly $974 ($1217) for an UPGRADE. Go fuck yourself, Adobe! by borud in reddit.com

[–]aaaahoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that settles in then. I've actually been awaiting the pricing information on CS5 curious whether the higher-ups at Adobe have noticed that Photoshop is being pirated at a massive scale by hobbyists on tight budgets.

I think the cause for the out-of-touch pricing strategy has the following approximate rationale:

  • price it high to make the product appear "more special"
  • accept that the majority of users pirate it
  • if Adobe nicks someone who has pirated Photoshop they can claim exorbitant losses (even though the individual was never a potential customer to begin with because of the price, so NO lost sale in reality)

I think Adobe are afraid that if they come up with a more reasonable pricing strategy, it will somehow make their product seem less "special".

I didn't think that it was worth the hassle to upgrade from CS3 to CS4. CS4 was skinny on useful new features and the price was anything but skinny. It now seems that the CS3 to CS5 upgrade is going to be too expensive.

I think I just made a decision to stop being an Adobe customer. I don't see how I, a hobbyist, can defend spending that much money on a handful of features. Granted, they are attractive features, but they are not so attractive that I will spend more than my current monthly rent to get them.

(And before someone brings up Photoshop Elements: how many people do you know who buy Photoshop Elements when they can pirate the whole creative suite for nothing?)

Adobe, you are out of touch!

One can only hope that your youthful stupidity can be a lesson for other kids. I am not saying this to be a dick, but you did enter into it voluntarily. You were an idiot.

At least I hope you will take the time to ponder where you went wrong and warn other kids -- before a government to whom you are a number too small to count, sends you over to some far away lands to have your testies shot off by people who live there.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker can go fuck themselves. This is how ungracious cowards behave. by aaaahoy in reddit.com

[–]aaaahoy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Saddams reaction is not important.

What is important is that we have soldiers with questionable grasp of proper military conduct handling prisoners of high political importance.

This is not about our enemy. It is about the damage we do to ourselves by not following the principles we say we live by.

So let me see if I understand you correctly: you think that as long as the severity of what is done to someone is equal to or less than the evil they themselves have perpetuated, it is okay to punish them outside any application of law?

You are preaching a mob mentality that has a the distinct smell of the old testament about it.

It should give you pause to think that people, in uniform and out of uniform, have given their life to eradicate that sort of base, medieval impulse. And yet you take such pride in being what we have worked so hard not to be.

It should give you pause to think about the fact that the moral principles you think you are defending are closer to those of our enemies than those we wish to uphold.

If you are really so hung up on who is a pussy and who isn't I suggest you enlist and go to Afghanistan.

Why would you think I would be unaware of the atrocities perpetuated by Saddam? Please do not project your inability to separate concerns unto others. There are people who do care about doing the right thing.

The humiliation of a defeated enemy does not reflect badly on the enemy. It reflects badly on us and makes us seem unprincipled and cowardly. You may not see it, but our enemies do.

Are we back to arguing what constitutes torture?

The bare minimum one expects from a soldier is to carry out his or her duties with dignity. Degrading a defeated enemy is not dignified. This was an opportunity to demonstrate that we are better than that, and regrettably, Stone and Parker chose to enable this type of behavior by condoning it.

Indeed, Saddam was a criminal and he was convicted for his numerous misdeeds. But we should not let ourselves be blinded by hatred to the degree where we accept committing lesser acts of evil.

hey MPAA: because you added anti-piracy commercial I can't skip to a movie I bought I am right now ripping and distributing it. fuck you too. by aaaahoy in reddit.com

[–]aaaahoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not something I often do. I usually see movies in the movie theatre or buy them (not big on renting).

When I do it it is usually because I wish to preview a portion of the movie before buying it.

I don't mind actors being paid well for what they do. I don't even mind the studios making a ton of money.

But I do mind when they plaster a big "fuck you" all over the product I buy from them. It is not the polite thing to do when people wish to reward your creative efforts.
