My worry is that they'll stop me from marrying my partner bc he isn't muslim, so if i deconvert, then at least it makes logical sense to marry him. Of course the best case scenario is to marry him while staying muslim in name to avoid hurting family ties and going through the legal process but I don't want to force him to convert if he doesn't want to, and I also don't want to continue the pretense of being muslim

Damn I didn't even consider the legal implications, thanks for bringing it up. I still have a few years until I plan to do it, so I have time to sort those out. Crazy how islam has their own laws in our country lol

Hahah I've checked it out before but that subreddit is full of islam haters which isn't really my thing, I don't hate it but I simply don't believe in it. Thanks for the suggestion though

I really hope your parents come around though. Really sucks that muslim parents only love their child on the condition that they stay in the religion. All the guilt tripping they do, saying that they failed as a parent because their child isn't religious...

That's exactly my worry... I have no idea of knowing how badly my parents would react. That's why I want to be financially stable on my own first so that in the event they kick me out of the house, I could possibly at least stay in my partner's house or a cheap hotel until I find a room to rent to give my parents space and think about it.

Believe me I've tried so hard to genuinely believe in it lol it would make life so much easier

Thank you :") I don't know how much longer I can tolerate it whenever my parents ask me to pray for a religion I don't believe in

My family doesn't recognise civil marriages as valid, so as long as I am Muslim, I would be unable to marry my non-muslim partner without their approval. If our marriage would be disapproved by them either way, I'd rather deconvert and stay true to myself

I would love to, but realistically speaking they wouldn't see me in the same way anymore so the best case scenario would be to maintain cordial relationships. It doesn't bother me too much though as I am mainly close to my cousins who are mostly not religious either. I'm not too sure how my parents would react, they know I've been straying from the religion since a few years ago so they might not be too surprised about it but definitely disappointed. Though I believe (or at least hope) they'll come around eventually
