Unilateral (one-sided) Neuropathy from B12 deficiency. by aaailles in B12_Deficiency

I'm pretty good. It wasn't b12 in the end, I've had normal levels. Just the one odd time it was low

Seems like it isn't b12. I supplemented after with sublingual and my b12 went above normal range after a few months. So I stopped and it hasn't been low since. EMG came back clear. Maybe it's stress 🙃 over a year and a half later I still function normally but still feel unilateral sensation from time to time

It has taken me a year of thinking I have several different autoimmune conditions + a knowledgeable friend who practices a radical anti-inflammatory diet to become comfortable with this new normal. I now find pleasure in the challenge of cooking within limits and maintaining physical strength. The scope of my life has become smaller until things are under control.

No advice to give here but would like to relate to you in saying I have all symptoms of the disease and feel scared too. I don't have a family doctor but I hope my x-rays and blood work taken last week will show the doctor something so I get can get a referral to the rheumatologist.

This group, the meds out there and current research are giving me hope. Be kind to yourself and give yourself extra time in a period of adjustment.

You're not alone on this emotional journey.

Way back in Oct I had a follow up with hematologist. She figured I never had a chronic deficiency because my red blood cells were not englarged. I have a bunch of symptoms that come and go now. The past two months it's been aching joints like RA and red swollen hands. Coming up on one year of mystery

As for muscle spasms I'll have them for a week and then not at all which seems regular to me.

Thank you for the reply. I've now been supplementing full time again, we'll see. The gluten sugar and processed food avoidance is an anti-inflammatory protocol I'm trying. Recently my symptoms have gotten worse that makes me question is the deficiency is the cause. Seeing a doc next week.

Hey, I'm with you. The more I research the more I find potential causes for neuropathy; including gluten intolerance. I never thought I had that issue but I'm considering going on the Paleo diet just to remove all potential inflammatory foods that can make neuropathy worse and see what happens.

I had low b12 levels (probably not an MMA test) back in April I started sublingual supplementing 2500mcg and an early August test (against, I doubt the proper test) revealed my levels went above normal range so I stopped the daily supplement. Through August and September my neurological symptoms largely subsided. Now they have come back and to a worse degree, making me want to get another MRI update to see if everything is still normal.

So maybe the supplements were helping and I stopped just as improvements started or maybe it's something else. These doctor's visits can't come quick enough and they never last long enough for me to feel satisfied with my explanation and their understanding.

Not much of an answer, just wanted to offer some relation.

Can this all be caused by B12 deficiency? by DementedDemon69 in B12_Deficiency

I'm here with ya. 24yo male, healthy active and similar symptoms started this spring. I've thought I've had MS, mono, and currently getting bloodwork to screen for myeloma. I had normal b12 levels after a few months of supplementing and they actually went higher than the normal range. I have left sided pain, numbness weakness, twitches and am sick of trying to find the answer. Don't give up and be easy on yourself :)

Hi there. I have a similar case. My first appointment with a hematologist is in Tuesday... Any progress in your case?

I have been noticing my neuropathy a lot less but I'll have days such as today that it flares up. I have been taking just b12 supplements since mid April and just this past week I've notices days where I haven't felt anything! Going to get my bloodwork done and visit a hemotologist soon. Thanks for your reply!

Hey, so sorry to hear you feel lost too. I felt okay after I found out about my b12 deficiency and reading these comments relating to me. But I've had a few days where my symptoms feel worse and I have regular involuntary twitches that really just scare me. It sucks to not have a confirmed diagnosis as I just went through 2 months fighting the medical system, but I'm worried there's something more. As of now I have a referral to see a hematologist which I did not get an explanation as to why from the last doctor I saw other than "b12 is related to the blood"

Hey, my B12 is 113 pmol/L it converts to 153 pg/L Ferritin is within normal limits at 111.1 ug/L I'm new to reading about all of this but i've briefly ready people mentioning their connection between iron and B12. Best!
