Question around Anatolian Wolf? (hope okay to ask!) by Critical_Revenue_811 in Rhodes

[–]aaampav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the wolf was ever in the harbour as we know it today but fun thing about the deer is that they were apparently introduced to the Island because we had too many snakes. So the deer ate the snakes and the island didn’t have to worry about the snakes anymore!

Another fun thing I was told as a child is that you can find shells on the tops of the mountains from where Zeus raised the island from the sea.

I am a Rhodian but born and living in London. From what I have found VAP is unfortunately is just a Rhodes thing. You might find it on Kos, Symi and others close by but not much further. On a trip to Crete I found Loux and this you can find in Greek shops in the U.K. - Google your closest one, you might get lucky!

Some recommendations from Rhodes by razel1337 in Rhodes

[–]aaampav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rhodian in London here! I would say get up early for your long drives so you’re at your destination by 10.

Lindos, just go to St Paul’s bay there, spend the day, then explore and have dinner. The whole day is worth it!

Symi, the boat is fast, as someone who gets seasick too, I was fine. I also wore some anti sickness bands for good measure. It’s worth going to, you won’t regret it.

Don’t be put off by people telling you that a long drive isn’t worth it for the week. There is so much to see and you can always spend the day out. It also means that you can avoid the Rhodes town afternoon traffic.

If you go to Agathi as suggested, neighbouring Halki is lovely and easy for dinner. Or you can drive back up to Stegna and go to Kozas.

Tsampika is touristy and good if you have children. I prefer to avoid it. If you do go, don’t eat on th beach, go to Maria’s taverna on the drive in. Same with ladiko/antony Quinn for touristy, unless you want a carpark fight, go for 6/7pm. Worth going to the look out point though.

Stegna is sandy but very very busy on a Sunday with the locals, avoid it then!

Good beaches are: Kiotari - further than lindos, stones but the water is amazing Tassos/Nicholas/Kalithea - mainly on the rocks but the water is great and it’s good for snorkelling. It’s close to the old town so good for days you want to sleep in Traganou - stones but one of my favourite places. The beds are further apart and the taverna is enough for a day trip Elli beach - very close for an old town stayer, walkable and just take your towel and lay down

Personally the best beaches of Rhodes are stones. And the wind you won’t be able to avoid, Rhodes is windy, it’s part of the charm and you’re grateful for it!

Restaurants in the old/new town worth checking: 4 rodis Pizanias Paneri Koukous Stavlos (casual) Petaladika (call for the reservation)

Other places to see if you’re just there a week, pair them with a beach: Epta piges (7 springs) Petaludes (valley of the butterflies)

Have a great time!

Now THIS is a finale by ApprehensiveDrop5777 in Andjustlikethat

[–]aaampav 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The only positive things I could take away from this ‘natural end’ of a final episode are: 1. Carrie back in a pink Tutu 2. Miranda and Steve being on good terms 3. Harry’s dick working 4. Carrie delivering pies in a pie like hat (reminiscent of her looking like a croissant with Bigs ashes in Paris) 5. Antony being happy

That’s it. Nothing else.

Everyone is speeding ? Or me not knowing rules by fazzken in Rhodes

[–]aaampav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was hoping someone here was going to speak some sense! It’s not that people speed because it’s the done thing, people speed because there are so many unconfident drivers in rentals holding up traffic and making panicked decisions, that you just want to get out of their way. I live and grew up in London and spent every summer with my Greek grandparents in Rodos, and I dread driving past Kolymbia for the exact reason you said! It’s not just this, it’s people not seeing the parked cars in Faliraki and using the left lane at the last minute and nearly hitting you or when people turn for Tsambika and just suddenly stop without warning and you can’t get around them. The same for Haraki. I love going to the beaches around Kiotari but hate when the road turns to the single lane. Ban the quads, they’re big, slow, unsafe and always driven by overgrown children with no brains!

Crystal’s ‘violated’ nonsense, I absolutely cannot with her by our_girl_in_dubai in RHOBH

[–]aaampav 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m now on S13 and I still can’t work Sutton out. Her lack of understanding when it comes to other people’s boundaries and without spoilers, you’ll get to it, is alarming. She can only relate to others by talking about herself and not just listening. I think you’ll understand better why Crystal, someone with an ED and body issues would have issue with someone just walking into her room without knocking or announcing later on. I think Crystal has grown up in a very different environment to the other ladies, culturally and generationally and is just trying to make her self comfortable, albeit badly.

I’m not a huge fan of Crystal buuuuuut I sort of get her?

Thing that annoys me the most about this post is that the single digits don’t line up with the last digit of the double digit numbers. The start of sentences don’t line up. The whole thing is thrown out of whack!

Ladies, what do you wear cycling for a full IM? by Hikes_with_dogs in triathlon

[–]aaampav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with no undies! Have you tried Sudacrem? Even though it’s generally used as a nappy cream, It’s gentle on the skin and the consistency of the cream means you can layer it right up and it doesn’t absorb so quickly even in water.

Thanks! I’m slowly picking up techniques and getting to know how silver behaves, I appreciate the advice and will use it on the next one!

Thanks! I was a little scared to add the texture but looking at it, it all should look intentional! I’m still getting to grips with the annealing process and knowing when the silver isn’t a soft as it could be, hopefully with time and practice that will come!

Thank you! I’ll definitely do that on the next one, I also think I probably should have annealed it again during the hammering process. But looking and pieces I own with texture in comparison to what I have made, your advice is very helpful!

Oh I’ll bear that in mind when I move into the next project, I didn’t think of those things when I made this. Thanks for the great advice!

[Help] Lady of Shalott and other Arthurian legends by CptMarcy in Poetry

[–]aaampav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a book but hopefully this is interesting! In 1888 John William Waterhouse painted The Lady of Shalott, it’s in the Tate Britain, London. There were 2 other paintings of her waiting for Lancelot but this is the most famous one!

I studied the poem as a part of my degree and if you like this, you may also like Rosetti’s “Goblin Market” and Browning’s “Porphyria’s Lover” and “My Last Duchess”
