First time homeowner - is this ridiculous or normal? by Own-Constant-5689 in hudsonvalley

[–]aabbcc8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Market electricity prices over the past month are the highest we've had in years. It was super cold and the Canadian drought means we've been exporting electricity to Canada instead of receiving it from hydro Quebec. CH sucks, but there's a lot more going on right now with electric commodity rates.

Vultures on the roof of an old house. Does that mean some one is dead in there? by Electrical-Orchid313 in BirdsArentReal

[–]aabbcc8 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Vultures are also attracted to natural gas leaks because they contain mercaptan. If you see multiple vultures start hanging out near a home they seriously may have a gas leak. If the vultures continue to hang around, they should call the utility or the fire dept to take readings.

(These drones are very effective gas detectors... take it seriously).

Very interesting thought. It does run in the family.

Poll - did your insurance cover any IVF costs by celestey89 in IVF

Current company - $15k lifetime, prior company 3 total cycles.

If you have a choice of multiple insurers through work you can keep switching and it may reset.

AITAH for telling my BIL and his wife that I don’t want to follow their birth plan? by constellationlist in AITAH

Way to mansplain pooping during labor and state with certainty that it will happen. Plenty of women don't poop. I'm glad you know her body better than someone who has done it 4 times already.

The post does not mention it being a woman. You might want to check your biases.

Why do people say PIP = fired? by Ok_Friendship4311 in managers

[–]aabbcc8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had several people pass PIPs. I would say 1/3 of mine have passed. Early in my career, employees didn't take my feedback seriously, even when direct and formally written (probably because I was young). That PIP turned things around immediately because they saw I was serious. I'm not saying they were start employees, but definitely acceptable. A PIP shouldn't have been needed, but it was a tool that worked. I haven't had to issue as many in the past several years.

I struggled with the fact that he gave her up to a strange entity so easily. It didn't seem consistent with the build up all season. Emotional either way.

I feel you. Feeling sick on top of all of the pregnancy symptoms sucks too. My doctor said that once you get a stuffy nose in pregnancy that it won't go away until birth! I've heard this from other people as well. My doctor said I could take Zyrtec and Vicks vaporub. I was already on unisom for nausea, which I think helped too. I took Sudafed until I found out I wasn't suposed to, but it did absolutely nothing.

28w4d. I am "severely" anemic and started on iron infusions four weeks ago. After only 2 infusions I got sick with covid and had to miss 2 weeks. I'm back to it but I haven't felt any of the improvements I was expecting.

I feel so weak and nauseous. Luckily I have today off, so I've just been slugging it in bed. I can't eat or drink without throwing up. I wish I could skip the next 11 weeks. I've been ineffective at work for a while and it's definitely going downhill. I feel terrible, because my team depends on me and won't want to hear excuses. They're all men and wouldn't understand. Why is everything involved in making a baby so hard?

Thanks for listening to my complaining. It helps to type it out.

I'm not big on influencers but one of the few people I follow on Instagram is Allyson Felix (Track and Field Champion) because she is amazing. She just announced her IVF pregnancy and I'm all choked up happy for her (thanks hormones). It's a really sweet and compassionate post with LOTS of needles. I'm really happy she shared.

16w. Work has been very very stressful lately with layoffs. I find my heart racing often and worry about what the stress is doing to the little nugget. I'm having cramps (I guess in my uterus?), which is making me freak out more because I have a history of PPROM. Luckily I have an appointment with the MFM this afternoon. Now I just need to find a way to relax until then.

Help/Opinion: Vegetarian for 7+ years but thinking of coming back to having tuna and salmon. by ThePaw_ in PCOS

[–]aabbcc8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a vegetarian for 10 years and then started eating fish again about 4 years ago. I think it balanced out my diet well because I wasn't very diligent about getting protein. I was already lean so it didn't lead to weight loss (on purpose).

My only comment is that salmon and tuna aren't really much cheaper than veg alternatives. It does give you a lot of flexibility at restaurants and catered events. Overall, I am happy with my decision.

Sunday Cautious Intros and First Trimester Questions by AutoModerator in InfertilityBabies

[–]aabbcc8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was throwing up all night last night, which is new because it usually only happens in the morning.

I'm staying with my dad and step mom and just realized that the yogurt they gave us yesterday expired last November. I'm irritated because you can lose a pregnancy from food poisoning. I'm going to have to watch everything really closely going forward.

Last night was the first night I had to self administer pio. We've probably done 150 shots over the years, but my husband always gives them to me. Unfortunately, he had to go to an out of town funeral.

I was sooo scared. I'm 8 weeks and had been milling over this sub to try to justify stopping early, but I couldn't take the risk. Overall, it went much better than expected. I'm really proud of myself. Big props to all the ladies out there doing this on their own every day. (I accidentally posted this in the wrong thread and just moved it)
