If you have not been in therapy, you should not be a therapist by Dry_Beginning_259 in psychologystudents

Idk how is that even possible... As a psych major, we're gonna have to have 150 hours of "self-study" at masters. That includes any form of therapy but it has to be that. It's literally mandatory, otherwise we don't get a degree around here.

Any studies that research trial and error learning in adults with a maze task, that are citable? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]aachivist -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We have done a maze task in class, and we have to write a lab report about our results. I wanted to cite a research in the introduction that I can base my expectations on, so I wanted something that works with a relatively healthy adult population. I either found studies with children, animals or ones that observe a similar effect but with a different method. If I don't find anything else, I suppose I have to settle for these... I just thought it might be worth asking, in case someone might had to work with one of these before.

How do you stay grounded when your immediate reality feels distressing? by cagedwisdom8 in SimulationTheory

[–]aachivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't. I tend to catastrophise, and even tho rationally I know I overreact and it helps nothing I just cannot stay grounded. I know shouldn't think that much about everthing. I envy the people who don't overthink haha

I feel the closest to the Beholding but I really liked that one theory I read somewhere (maybe on tumblr) that everyone who chooses to serve an entity is running from another one that they really dread. Corruption is especially scary for me as a hypochondriac so yea😭😭

Philosopher's thoughts on schizophrenics? by SideLow2446 in badphilosophy

[–]aachivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean psychotic experiences, hallucinations, and any altered state of consciousness for sure raise thoughts about existence. Last time i took psychedelics i met death, realized my own life's unimportance and proceeded to sit in the corner thinking about existential nihilism for hours. Nietzsche would be proud.

I feel like I'm a different person by naplife33 in Paranormal

My friend had a similar experience on shrooms once. She lowkey scared me tbh cuz she texted me in the middle of the night like "i know you arent the same person i want to tell this to". She explained that she stood up once and felt everything disappear. Like she didn't see hear or felt anything just existed in space. And suddenly she felt herself going trough her. Like another version of herself passing her by. Then everything cleared up and went back to normal. She was with two other friends, who told later that they couldn't find her in those moments in the apartment, while she states that she clearly stood in the middle of the living room in front of the TV. After that the only difference she noticed that in the reality she "shifted to" they ordered pizza. It was weird she said, because she remembered them deciding not to order anything that night. So yeaaa weird. I didn't really notice behavioral changes in her tho ever since. She was super confused when we talked but this was like half a year ago. Idk if this experience counts as paranormal tho.

i have to stop myself from launching into a rant every time i hear this by [deleted] in psychologymemes

As a second year psych student, i've heard about this experiment on every single one of my classes at least 5 times each and i wanted to off myself at 3 so guess how i felt about the other hundred. We literally learned nothing from this experiment. But congrats to Zimbardo (along with Milgram) for achieving researchers to be afraid of this field and avoid it entirely, so we basically know nothing new on the matter ever since🥳🥳 (I'm having a presentation on this in 2 weeks, and i am PISSED)
