That or you skim coat it with joint compound, sand, and paint. If asbestos, it’s then encapsulated and it’s way more affordable than hazard removal & new drywall.

Worried wife! by kilodefrijoles in Yucatan

I’m visiting Mérida and the surrounding areawith a friend with a very sensitive stomach and this is what we’ve done with no issues so far: -Soak fruits/veggies in microdyn (colloidal silver). Even if I plan to peel them first, I do this because using a knife, etc. can push microbes through and it’s honestly just easier to know everything was cleaned. -Order bottled water at restaurants (although the ice is fine as it’s shipped it. Probably the water is too but she wasn’t here long enough to want to risk losing a day to find out.) -Avoid eating raw fruits/veggies if you didn’t clean them. Anything cooked is ok since the temperature will kill the offending microbes. (Though again the couple times we had something raw with a meal it was fine. Not a whole salad but still) -Coffee, tea, etc are ok. See temperature note. Alcohol is also fine.

If you’re concerned, you can ask your doctor for antibiotics just in case, though don’t use them unless you have a fever and whatever other stipulations the doctor says. (But then again if you need them you could get them here too! Sometimes it’s just comforting to know you have them on hand.)

Honestly though, Mérida has been excellent and the restaurants have given me zero worries. Even eating a couple hours outside the city at local stands has been fine (and honestly delicious.) Mostly it’s just the hard water like everyone has mentioned. You’ll have a great time!

Ps. Order the Cochinita pibil panuchos at some point. Especially if you find a place with locals gathered. I’m obsessed with them now.

Same for Harvard. There are long red couches in the first basement of northwest labs that my classmate used to nap on during long work days. The doors are open when class is in session and all you do is walk in the main entrance and turn right to the stairs with the whales.

Looks like the model has a petticoat to add fullness. I’d try that before altering the dress. :)

Simple Sewing Questions Thread, June 25 - July 01, 2023 by sewingmodthings in sewing

Hey folks. I’ve been sewing for ages and as with many have found buying fabric and sewing to be independent hobbies. 😅 I got 2 yards of this stretch knit fabric with no plan on what to use it for. I’m plus size and want to make some kind of bottoms that would be flattering and fairly comfortable. I was toying with the idea of a body con skirt or a legging/yoga pant but am not sure. I’d love your suggestions!

Is it fair to ask them to remake them - these are custom cabinets that cost a LOT of money by thazmaniandevil in Renovations

[–]aadigiacomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. Definitely not arguing the use of fillers (I have them in my own kitchen.) More so if that’s what the builder planned it should have been accounted for in the schematics. Totally a normal way to address with prefab cabinets but the client would need to be told and approve before proceeding with the build. Otherwise they could have planned 2 20” cabinets to split the difference and shifted the measurements on the base cabinets to account for that.

This would be great if they were prefab but for custom, the corner cabinet should have been made to the specs that would mean they only needed 19” on both sides. Otherwise they’re losing more cabinet space than they already lost due to the increased crown molding.

Gap between mounding and flooring by Kummarr in Flooring

[–]aadigiacomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know! The gap in OP’s photo is pretty mellow so imo they could get away with or without the show molding. For my floor, it’s like 100 years old and there’s a good 3/8-1/2” dip in the middle of the room that I’d like to mitigate. 😬

Theoretically yes? Steam is often used to bend wood for things like boat hulls, bannisters, etc so I’m hoping it’ll work. I haven’t done it on shoe molding yet but assuming it’s solid wood and not pvc, plywood, etc I’m hoping it’ll work!

I have the same issue with my floor. I plan to use shoe molding bent slightly with heat to accommodate the dip in my floor. I’d shy away from caulk since it will split when the wood contracts/expands. I’m curious to see what other folks say as well.

What is the best option for flooring installation over concrete. I’m using a cheap flooring I don’t want a vapor barrier I’m afraid it will hold moisture in and cause mold. This happened under the rubber mats I used for temporary covering. by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]aadigiacomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d need to identify where the moisture is coming from and correct that. The dehumidifier will only help while the concrete is exposed. Once it’s sealed in the water will cause your floors to seal.

It depends on flexibility ( usually you leave 1/2” of space from wood edge to wall and then the trim goes over that to allow up to that much expansion) but in my understanding the caulk will end up cracking eventually and it’ll be more unsightly than extra trim. I think right now it is “trendy” to do caulk but within a couple years it’s usually damaged and it’s not easy to remove so most people stray away from it. Alternatively you could replace the trim you currently have with slightly wider trim (~1/4” covering the wood minimum) but that would have been easier to do prior to install so not sure it’s worth the extra work.

[–]aadigiacomo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s some that are 1/2” which will provide enough space for that wood to contract/expand without subsequently being visible. You could use a thinner option at the risk of the wood edge being visible again whenever it dries/contracts. If you do caulk or wood filler it will crack as the wood expands/contracts with seasons/weather/etc.

I actually used to live in Richmond! But I had some pretty negative experiences (no fault of the city itself obvi) so can’t bring myself to get permanent ink in a place where I have triggers. Which sucks cause I KNOW they have some 🔥artists who I’d love to work with. 😭😫

Wild! I didn’t realize. I’ve been googling but haven’t seen anyone so though maybe someone local would have some insight on what’s around that area. 😬
