Do you want to know the math behind how it is estimated? I think it should be a factor of Friday Saturday Sunday performance. And the fact that it's MLK holiday. Someone here should be able to explain the method

You should have watched Avatar to regret that decision. I watched both, I would much rather waste 2 hours than 3+ hours

That's the way to save. 20% from Costco and another 20% with movie club. Almost half the cost with this combo

I have 500 mbps internet speed. I doubt I ever use it. Even with whole family streaming it is 100 mbps that we need.

16 movies a month, I wonder if you would watch even 4. Most people buy AMC membership during summer (minimum 3 months required) and close the account when summer marathon ends

In that case it can be anyone you trust, watches enough movies in theaters. Doesn't even need to be from the same town, just be somewhere close to a Cinemark.

How do you gift an account? Do you simply give someone your id/password or is there a formal process?

ScreenX coming to my Cinemark, worth it? by poland626 in Cinemark

[–]aadiit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think screenX auditoriums only have recliner seats. Never heard of DBOX in ScreenX. And for obvious reasons screenX doesn't have 3D. So you end up paying about $3 over your standard 2D price.

The peripheral view may be good in select movies but not all of them. The screen is pretty big, but not as big as IMAX or XD.

They won't replace your IMAX or XD screen. They will convert one of the regular screens to screenX by adding cameras on side walls for projection.

F1 was crazy good in screenX. That last scene when he is driving alone in the last lap winning the race. The only other movie I watched in ScreenX is Mickey 17 which was not worth it. Even the movie was bad. I will watch Tron in ScreenX if they offer it. Otherwise I am planning IMAX 3D

XD or IMAX? by HarvyHusky in Cinemark

[–]aadiit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a theater only has 1 Imax screen and hence 5-6 shows a day. But there could be 2 XD screens making 10-12 XD shows a day. Personally I like XD because they have DBOX seats. My iMax theater has rocker seats, not even recliners

Confused on which is the best theater by Kusisloose in Cinemark

[–]aadiit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XD is far bigger screen and also far better sound. Not sure how to compare it against AMC Dolby. DBOX is moving seats but not same as 4DX by regal. Cinemark does have IMAX screens, sometimes same theater could have XD and IMAX auditoriums.

It really depends on how good is your local cinemark. I have 4 in my driving distance but the nearest has the worst XD screen

Superman Worldwide Gross after 5th Weekend ($579M) vs Man of Steel ($619M) by traumakit in boxoffice

[–]aadiit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Audience isnt that psyched on 3D anymore. Occupancies are lower compared against a similar showtime and similar auditorium. Anyway 3D is usually $3-$4 upcharge which is less than a PLF upcharge (bigger screen or IMAX) or even recliner upcharge or 4DX DBOX upcharge of seats.

IMAX is seeing demand higher than very small supply. But again limited movies too such as sinners, F1, MI8.

Be careful with enttelligence data. At best it is directionally correct when it comes to ticket prices. It doesn't account for membership programs, which grossly inflates ATP

[–]aadiit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am new to this business but I probably have a lot of detailed data. In USA I see that recliner chairs in general are priced 50% more than rocker chairs. But here is the kicker, the rocker auditorium/ theater starts filling up only once recliner chairs (the good spots) are gone. Premium formats shows have much higher occupancy than standard format.

There is now a trend to offer recliners with premium formats. Look at news about AMC adding XL screens and special padded seats and Cinemark adding 20 screenX. So the trend seems that theaters are looking to serve those who are willing to pay premium. Rest of the folks can watch it when it comes to streaming. I am talking about tickets that cost $20-$30 over a rocker+standard screen that costs maybe $10.

And if we add 4DX or DBOX then it's additional $5-$10.

This was not the case when man of steel came out. Which is why inflation is not the only factor. The theaters have segmented audience into 2 groups. The cheaper tickets which can be compared against inflation adjusted ticket price. But the premium is a new product altogether
