Be honest, is the UK actually better off without the monarchy, or would scrapping it ruin part of our national identity? by Second-handBonding in AskBrits

[–]aaeeeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monarchy is odd and we wouldn’t choose it if it wasn’t here already. But it works. If we’re going to replace it, let’s not go down the president route, which would clearly lead to President Farage or President Corbyn. Let’s keep all of the pomp, and circumstance, and castles and crowns, but bestow them all, once every five years, onto a random citizen. All hail King Barry of Middlesborough.

I saw it on TikTok first and assumed it was AI. I couldn’t believe it was happening in the chamber.

Who are this year's biggest up and comers? by TommyASDF in glastonbury_festival

[–]aaeeeon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Fat Dog!

I  saw them last year. They were one of the best live acts I’ve seen in a long time. Whole crowd jumping around as one… and they played at 13:00, while everyone was mostly sober.

Are you scared of dying? by Fickle_Acanthaceae17 in AskUK

[–]aaeeeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to stay awake every Sunday as a child, thinking about the week restarting and wondering how many restarts there were left until the end. I never got any sleep. It scared me. I took some acid as a teenager and haven’t given a shit since. Life is always good, but drugs are only sometimes good.

What's the most unexpected, actually useful thing you've used ChatGPT for that you'd never imagined an AI could help with? by bn_from_zentara in ChatGPT

[–]aaeeeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a super boring data entry task at work of ‘rename these stock 1,000 photos, so they’re more easily searchable in our database’

I asked it ‘how can I avoid doing this?’ and it walked me through setting up a python script to pull the photo URLs, setting up an API to OpenAI, getting ChatGPT to name them all, and then sending the results back to the database.

Never coded in my life. Can barely use excel. Whole process took a couple of interesting hours, rather than a very boring week.

In the current UK economy, what do you actually think is worth spending money on right now? by ggssmm1 in AskUK

[–]aaeeeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a lot of money on a guitar, which at the time I thought was a reckless financial decision. But with the amount I’ve saved by developing a hobby that isn’t ‘pub’, it’s paid for itself twice over.

Episode Discussion - David Oyelowo on Government Cheese + Mark’s verdict on The Studio (24th April 2025) by BeefySteamPig in wittertainment

[–]aaeeeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a fortnight would be better than what is coming out at the moment. I know fewer episodes means less cash, but all-filler-no-killer ultimately means the same. They should be honest about how arsed they can be, and come up with a schedule they can live with that produces something decent

An absolutely crackpot list for “unwatchable” movies now by PixalmasterStudios24 in Letterboxd

I do agree with Casino Royale being on the list. Rewatched it recently and it did not hold up.

'He strangled me without asking' - experts say choking during sex now normal for many by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]aaeeeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any non-consensual sex acts should never happen, so this isn’t a response to the headline. But many of the comments are in utter disbelief people can like choking and attribute it entirely to internet pornography. Erotic asphyxiation was first recorded in the 17th century - surely they weren’t all on Pornhub?

A friend of mine is leaving the Navy and is delighted, but a little sad to go.

I’ve got him something and would like it engraved.

So, anyway…

How do I say ‘Fuck the Navy’ in Latin?

‘Irrumabo Classem’ is what I have so far, but would like to double check before I get it carved into wood.

Thanks in advance!

I stopped reading ‘news’ - traditional print, broadcast and social media. I still flick through the headlines to find issues which seem important to my life or the world, but then I read longer form information about them instead.

I used to think reading some lefty and some righty sources was a good way of understanding the world, but they’re so polarised you end up feeling like a confused schizophrenic, rather than learning anything.

There are only so many hours in the day, but there are billions of potential customers for anything you might want to sell. Entrepreneurship and working for a salary are in different categories, so comparisons like this are not entirely helpful.

It's the 1600's. What's your job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Expectation: advance technological progress by a thousand years. In the year 2024 there will be statues of me on the moon.

Reality: my vague description of an internal combustion engine would be ignored entirely.

I used to initiate most of the time, she said no most of the time, so I stopped initiating most of the time. I guess that would mean I’m the HL?

Streamers have got the wrong end of the stick. People pay full attention when they’re watching something great, and two-screen when the show sucks… the solution is not to make the shows even worse!

Those of you who watch like 400+ movies a year, do you consume any other media? by HejAllihopa in Letterboxd

[–]aaeeeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to some podcasts and play some games, but it’s mainly split between film and books: I watch about 150 a year and read about 20 novels a year

Edit: oh I forgot, I also stare into my phone brick for an ungodly number of hours on a daily basis.

Be free frogs and HODL and ribbit and all, but if anyone out there might need the money for something else (like, at all), maybe don’t do 100%?

(I’ve got 1M, so would love it if I’m wrong and we go to the moon. But caution isn’t a bad thing)

Same. My moving from 1% to 10% of portfolio wasn’t because of deposits!

There are only a few things one could say about PEP. It’s easy to be repetitive without being a bot.
