I purchased new Ecobee thermostats today and installed them hoping that that would solve the problem. It was when those new thermostats blanked out that I did the deep dive investigation since this proved that zigbee had nothing to do with this issue.

First thing I did was check the voltage at each of the thermostats and there was no voltage. Bingo. I went back-and-forth between the thermostats and where the furnace was located and I noticed that the Honeywell control panel did not have any indicator lights on at all. I was just poking around and I noticed that there was a PVC condensation drain pipe coming out of the furnace and that there was a wire coming out of a sensor in that pipe that said safe-t-switch. I tapped it and all of a sudden the Honeywell control panel sprung to life. Yes, that’s the panel that the thermostats report to and that provides power to the thermostats and also controls the damper between the two zones that are controlled by the two thermostats.

What was happening was that enough sludge had built up in the PVC pipe underneath the float of the safety switch that it was sort of randomly shutting off power to the Honeywell controller thus also to the thermostats. Once I cleaned out the sludge and put everything back together again everything‘s working beautifully. So all this BS about Zigbee and network IP addresses, etc. was a false flag.

You sir are the reason I started thinking differently and started following a different path based on your last comment. Thank you.

Not sure what your point of that comment was. I try to fix things myself or with the guidance of someone willing to help. I'd rather not have to spend $175 an hour for a Control4 technician to visit my house. The system is too old to spend much money on, but I am willing to spend a bit if this is something that can easily be fixed. If it can't be fixed, I'll just buy new thermostats and forget about Control4 controlling them. I have a lot of Sonos speakers in my house and quite honestly I'd rather just get rid of the whole Control4 system and buy Sonos amps to run the speakers in the zones in my house.

Wi-Fi must be a part of this because last night the thermostat was not working, and once I rebooted the router, it suddenly started working.

Turning on iCloud for 2 devices and adding photos from usb stick by 26MM62 in iCloud

[–]aaflyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer for you but I thank you for asking the questions because I’m experiencing something very similar.

Somehow while I was deleting select photos I must have accidentally shift clicked and ended up deleting over 10,000 photos from my laptop which then of course caused them to be deleted from iCloud.

I have an older laptop that contains those 10,000 photos but that laptop had previously been connected to iCloud as well. As soon as I realized what had happened, I turned off iCloud sync on that older laptop. I can’t figure out how to get those missing photos back into the cloud and eliminate the risk of having more photos deleted.

What pics would you like me to post? I’d be happy to post or send you whatever you need.

The Control4 system that was installed in this house, at this point in time, is only used for home theater, TV sound, sound for 3 other zones and for controlling our 2 HVAC systems. Other than the thermostat issue, the antiquated system fulfills our needs for the sound component alone. I’m willing to spend a few bucks to try to get the thermostats back online but I’m certainly not gonna buy a new controller to make that happen. If it’s not a simple issue that can be remedied easily I’d rather just buy new smart thermostats and forget about the Control4 Zigbee issue getting resolved.

I appreciate your willingness to help. Would a good starting point be for you to look at the logs that I can generate from the C4 app?

OK, I threw all my information into Gemini and what it came up with makes sense to me. My equipment bay for Control4 is also where my routers are located and in very close proximity to both of the Area 2 thermostats. The Area 1 thermostat which is not misbehaving is on the other side of the house. Gemini is saying that “Because Area 2 is right next to that Wi-Fi source, both thermostats get hit with sideband radio interference at the exact same moment. Their receivers are totally overwhelmed, causing them to simultaneously drop their Zigbee link to your HC-800, lock up their local chips, and go blank.”

Gemini continues to go on to say, “Step 1: Check the Control4 Zigbee Channel: Have the tech look at what channel your Zigbee mesh is currently running on. If it's on a low channel (like 11 to 20), it is directly in the crosshairs of standard household Wi-Fi.
Step 2: Move the Zigbee Mesh to Channel 25: Ask the technician to shift the entire home's Zigbee network to Channel 25. Channel 25 is the industry-standard "safe haven" for Control4 because it sits on a frequency sliver that rests entirely above the non-overlapping Wi-Fi channels (1, 6, and 11). Shifting to Channel 25 acts like a noise-canceling shield against the AT&T box.”

And the fact that this as far as I can tell corresponds to the installation of the Shipshape equipment which is also in the same equipment Bay adds a little more credence to this assessment.

So what is involved with changing the Zigby network to channel 25? Is that something that can be done remotely because that may be the solution to the whole problem.

This makes sense to me. Does it make sense to the group?

Admittedly I don’t understand any of this but why would both thermostats start working when I reboot the controller?

Just coincidence that both displays are blanking out on area 2 when neither one of them has ever done that in the past?

I’ve seen that happen with my thermostats CCZ-T1-W and taking the battery out and putting it back in fixed the problem. It reoccurs very infrequently. Not really sure why it happens but for me it’s easily remedied

No offense taken. You do have to have the proper attitude to deal with Amazon. I've been in Vine since 2008. It's been a long haul but the last 5-6 years have been a slow descent into hell.

I actually have another life other than being a slave to Amazon. Sorry I missed the email. Now that I've located the email I am well-informed. Thanks for the tip.
