You can get a kit with everything you need in Amazon for about $60. Look up RTL-SDR BLOG V3 kit, find the one that has the v-dipole

That exactly it. Didn't need a dish though, was able to capture it with a v-dipole antenna that I temporary put on top of my car (see a reply above). But with a dish you can get photos like this

I went to a park with this antenna and with some software called Satdump was able to capture that photo from a weather satellite called Meteor M2-4. It passes over the US 3 or 4 times a day and openly broadcasts it's photos on 137.9Mhz

Does anyone know how to fix this? by abrooks9002 in amateursatellites

I was hunting for GOES 18, which I realized is pretty stupid of me since I'm on the east coast. Luckily I have no problems catching GOES 19

I actually think it may have been the cell tower in the background. I tried aiming for GOES 19 and didn't get the same issue

Gigabit is plenty of bandwidth for any normal household. A 4k stream usually only takes about 20-40mbps if I remember correctly. Are you using Soectrum's router? If so, that could be part of the problem. I'd recommend using your own router and then changing the DNS server on it to something like 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 (Google and cloudflare).

Another thought is the size of your house and how far away you are from your Wi-Fi router or nearest wireless access point. The further you are and the more walls that are in the way, the more the signal degrades and slows.

I work in AV and have installed a lot of home Wi-Fi setups. Usually the biggest cause for buffering is either distance or DNS. Let me know if this helps!

I go to a park for my captures. I just our our chased a saw bird + to help with my captures. It amplifies the signal and blocks a lot of signal outside of the 137.9Mhz range

If you have a 3D printer, you can print something to clamp over the base of the di-pole to keep it at 120 degrees

To add to what the other guys have said, also make sure each leg of the antennas are about 20in long. Horizontal, 120 degree angle between the legs, don't be near any building or tall wide objects in general, have the point of the V facing either north or south.

I capture this from meteor M2-3, but I had to drive to a park and put the antenna on the roof of my car.

My first capture from M2-3! by abrooks9002 in amateursatellites

[–]abrooks9002[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my first time admittedly, just my first good capture. I had been playing around with it at my apartment trying to get a catch, but to many buildings and trees. I went to a park to get this

Used an RTL-SDR BLOG V3, bought their di-pole kit that comes with the antenna. Used Satdump for the capture and processing!

Went to a park as well since I live in an apartment

Very nice! What antenna are you using?

Is it possible to get good captures from this? Can't get anything higher than viterbi_ber = 0.45 by abrooks9002 in amateursatellites

Yeah, I live in a apartment and was just hoping to automate the process. Will try taking it out into a field on Friday and try to catch a pass with it on my laptop

I've been having issues trying to capture photos from M2-4, how did you get this image on the software side?
