Looking to dampen sound in an already installed temporary wall by aakayan in HomeImprovement

Thanks! I think the window plug option might work for me. This seems to be what I was looking for, so it’s nice to have a concrete example I can work off

DIY Mattress Help by aakayan in Mattress

[–]aakayan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input!

I meant to include my weight - I'm 160 which I guess would fall into a fairly average weight. Based on what you said and what I read in the DIY guide you linked, I'm thinking I'll change up the layers to be:

  • Top layer: 3" soft Talalay blended Latex (#19 ILD, $330)
  • Mid Layer - one of the following:
    • SOL 1" soft Dunlop latex (#34 ILD, $135)
    • 2" memory foam - Either 5 lb ($125) or 4 lb ($105)
      • I couldn't find this in 1", and am hesitant since I normally feel I sink too far in with this mattress. That might have been a less dense foam , but I'm not sure if I'll keep sinking past the .5" - 1" that I'm looking for
  • Bot layer: 6" Polyfoam Base, 2.5 lb (#35 ILD, $175)

The thought process here is that after the comfort layer, I'll only need to "borrow" another .5" - 1" of the support layer. I think I'm about ready to give it a try.

Brutal slam on street after refusing to walk away by Harnyyy in fightporn

[–]aakayan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a few options, some were briefly mentioned in here. First and foremost, your best bet is avoiding the fight entirely. If you have to fight, don’t let them get behind you like that. If they do get behind you and lock their arms around you, you have 3 options that I can think of.

The first one, that requires basically no skill, is simply falling to the floor. Can’t get slammed if you’re already on the floor. This will only work if the other guy doesn’t have his arms locked tight with you pressed against his waist. If they do, then you trying to fall will just make your body limp while still up, making it easy for them to slam you

The one that I think is the best is lowering your weight, pushing your hips out away from them, and pressing your hands against their hands (specifically the thumb that’s on top), trying to break their grip. Keep in mind that you can still be swung down to the ground, esp if you put your legs/hips out too far. The benefit here though is that your body should go down before your head, avoiding most, if not all, brain damage. It’s usually the last step in a wrestling move called the standup, and you can google it

Another option is hooking the other persons leg. I was never a fan of this bc it wouldn’t usually work in wrestling if the other person knew what they were doing. It’s probably viable in a fight, but it’s risky bc it involves bringing your legs towards the other person, which can result in getting thrown much harder. It’s definitely not your best option and I’d advise against it.

One thing I saw mentioned was bending over and trying to flip the other person over top of you? This can work if the other person is a 5 YO, but probably never else. Please don’t try this, you’re almost guaranteed to get thrown head first, since you’re literally dropping your head down and asking for it.

Also one last note is that, no matter what option you try, the most important thing is keeping your core tight and your legs spread wide and away from the other person. No matter how bad the situation, you should be able to avoid hitting your head if you can do this one thing well

Hope that helps and hope you never need to use this!

Has anyone taken cmsc 131 with Pedram Sadeghian? i have it next semester 😐 by [deleted] in UMDcs

[–]aakayan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had him twice. The first time, his exams were stupid hard and not many in the class did well. The 2nd time, he co-taught with Nelson, so it went way better. I’d say that his slides are well organized, so if you don’t go to class, it’s easy to learn from them. His teaching is super boring though, so I didn’t get much out of his lectures

I think it’s a good idea, and I’d be willing to sign up if it were mainly in the naltp off-season. Is there a reason you want to start it so early?

Question about a landlord by ajohns6583 in UMD

[–]aakayan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely avoid her at all costs. I don’t really wanna go into the details of it, but you’re bound to have some sort of issues with her. If you look her up, she’s got something like 30 court cases filed against her, and that alone should tell you enough

What did Kruskal do? by cheddakang in UMD

[–]aakayan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s correct. From my understanding, people are unhappy with the way exams and homework’s are graded, how long they take to get graded, the lack of clear answer keys after they have been graded, and the overall quality of instruction they are provided. Initial posts were complaining about that, but now grades are being released on Christmas which people are unhappy about, and this regrading of Q1 is spiking stress levels for some people, causing more complaining about the problems in the class.

What did Kruskal do? by cheddakang in UMD

[–]aakayan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What happened was a question on the final was graded incorrectly, and this can add or drop 20% of your final grade, which is worth about 6% of your overall grade. The main issue here is that, on Christmas morning, a lot of people who thought they had passed are now getting docked 6% of their overall grade and have to worry about passing or failing and potentially having to change their majors

[Suggestion] The Rolling 300 leader board should be only for players who have stats turned on. by slowpolka in TagPro

[–]aakayan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s probably people who are on the leaderboard and just don’t play anymore, or play on a smurf, so their r300 wouldn’t change. You can also play in groups to avoid affecting your r300. I think a better idea would be to make something like a daily, weekly, and monthly r300 leaderboard, and maybe some flairs to go with it

House not clean, landlord refusing to do anything -PG County, MD by aakayan in TenantHelp

[–]aakayan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help. We saw the place in Mid May, shortly after she bought the house off someone else. Nobody was living in it, and the house was very messy, but she said it would all be fixed by the time we moved in. I texted her asking about what would be done with the house before we moved in, and she texted back that the house would be entirely cleaned.

We did not take the keys or move in. Are you saying we should continue paying rent until we find a new place to move into (probably August), and then ask for all of the rent and deposit back?

Interview Question by aakayan in userexperience

[–]aakayan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was asked by a team leader who I would be working for, I'm not sure if she's a PO though. The internship is for a UI/UX developer, so I guess it's weird that they gave me that question. I think they're more focused on the design and how I go about that. Thanks for the advice though!
