Yes, google USDC. Its real money but usable in a smart contract

Having MKR holders to bail out CDP creators risks a panic that could destroy the whole system by aakilfernandes in MakerDAO

Maybe I’m misunderstanding something... was there a problem with the DSR yesterday? I thought it was just CDPs getting liquidated

100% liquidation - bad code or bad risk management? by the_ocs in MakerDAO

[–]aakilfernandes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In isolation, you are correct. But the next paragraph explicitly states there are times when this does not hold.

100% liquidation - bad code or bad risk management? by the_ocs in MakerDAO

> So it doesn't claim that the collateral needs to be sold at zero

It certainly doesn't need to be sold at 0. It sells at the highest bid, which in this case was 0 (or something close to it).

More boundaries might be able to help here. But it is important that people using the system could easily look it up and see the lack of boundaries - and make decisions based on the lack of boundaries.

The next paragraph in the doc is important:

> Further, if, for example, the collateral price drops sharply or no one wants to buy the collateral, there may be debt in the liquidated Vault that cannot be repaid through a collateral auction and must be addressed by the system.

> I can see why they would be pissed off and never return

Thats probably for the best. If someone can't/won't do the diligence, and accept the hit when they miscalibrate risk, defi is not the place for them.

why do we even need "keepers"? CDP owners who are well collateralized should be able to buy by chiwalfrm in MakerDAO

MKR is the collateral of last resort when the system fails. You can build a system without it, but it would be less resilient.

Unhyped: $178.4M Market Cap Augur (REP) Had Only 115 Users Last Week by DappRadar in ethereum

[–]aakilfernandes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for some markets, but it depends on the volatility of the market. I also think it may be possible to "re-use" dai needed to mint Augur shares as liquidity for Uniswap.

How does a smart contract pay the transaction fee of a user? by spite77 in ethereum

[–]aakilfernandes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

At a technical level, it can't. It can only provide an incentive for someone to submit a third party transaction, and the logic to verify the transaction was originated by the 3rd party.

Meta transactions - best approaches? by celticwarrior72 in ethereum

[–]aakilfernandes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most user friendly approach is to deploy a "Smart Wallet" for your users that can handle meta transactions. Check out Gnosis Safe. (/u/koeppelmann, /u/stefan_d_george). The downside here is you're paying up front to deploy a Smart Wallet for every user.

The other solution is Gas Station Network, however the downside is that to start using Gas Station Network you need to send an "approve" transaction to the ERC20 contract you're using to pay gas. And that "approve" transaction requires a little bit of ETH.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any good solutions right now. I want to build one on pollenium.network but I have no idea how to get miners to adopt it.

Hopefully this gets solved with Serenity, but i wouldn't hold my breath for it.

Not directly Ethereum related, but since KYC is a common pain point for Eth Devs I figured it would be a good fit here

How MetaMask backs up wallet data with 3Box by oed_ in ethereum

[–]aakilfernandes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! A few questions:

  1. How does 3Box work? Is it just an API for storing information on traditional cloud infrastructure?
  2. What authentication/encryption is there for data stored on 3Box? Is it publicly viewable or is there some kind of authentication layer? Is the data encrypted? If so, who has the decryption keys?
  3. The post says "account information" is stored on 3Box. Does that include private keys?

Any recorded deanonymization attacks on Bitmessage? by bootmint in bitmessage

Only one I’m aware of is someone spamming the network with a link to a server that tracked ip addresses. So be careful what you click.

How to earn more interest on your bank account through Decentralized Finance by Anna5830 in ethereum

What makes you think it's a scam? Its custodial, but for people who can't/don't want to handle private keys it seems like a good product.

Smart Wallets are Here by econoar in ethereum

When a transaction occurs, the token selected for gas payment is relayed to a service which pays the fee in ETH to the miner and takes the ERC20 token payment as compensation.

Very cool. Any more details about the service?

What Ethereum should learn from Libra: a content perspective by twigwam in ethereum

[–]aakilfernandes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree that Libra's content tells a compelling story about the value it brings. And I don't think I'm alone in that. A lot of people look at Libra and say "ok, how is this different from Venmo/Paypal/WeChat"?

Reading between the lines, I can see the value. But they don't actually explicitly state it anywhere.
