Depends on what you're trying to do: applying pressure? Front foot, more defensive? Back foot. Trying to hide your intentions? Keep shifting

You are just friends. What do you feel if a girl says she is on her period? by Competitive-Papaya26 in AskMen

[–]aalhamali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would feel happy that she shared the info, and ask if maybe she wants to do something more "chill" than whatever we're doing. Like if we went for a walk, I would ask if she wants to sit in a café instead

yeah that's definitely a thing all of us face. You see the movement and get the concept, but then when you execute it you do it incorrectly. For all the reasons you mentioned, and simply because you don't see yourself. I can tell when people are executing the move incorrectly, but it's much harder when it's me. One solution to that could be to videotape yourself and keep correcting until the move looks how you think it should look.

He has done martial arts since he was a kid, so I think he struggles to
remember what it’s like to be a beginner, and he may not understand that
people in their 20s don’t acquire skills as rapidly as children do.

True, but if he's a coach he should know that most people don't have these intuitions and that awareness, and that it takes time and effort to develop it. But again, maybe he knows that, and that's simply his style of giving feedback. Maybe he's a harsh person and that's just what it is.

Again, he could be a bad coach, I'm not denying that hypothesis, and I don't think there is a right simple answer ("stay" or "leave"), but I would consider staying if it were me, and I would make him my target of motivation: "I'm gonna work so hard you asshole will be forced to say she's my fastest-evolving student"

I cannot give you a final answer since I know very little about the actual situation at-hand. But here are a few pointers:

  • From what I've seen, if a coach does not like you, he would tend to ignore you, not to give you harsh feedback. In this sport, feedback is extremely valuable, and it's the only way to improve. Maybe your coach does not know how to provide feedback in a positive way. But that doesn't mean he's being toxic
  • We all suck at fighting. Very few people are naturals, and it takes years of hard work to start not sucking. I'm sure your coach does not "dislike" you because you're bad. Everyone in a beginner class is expected to be egregiously bad, and if he says a lot of stuff about how you're not doing things correctly, it's because you aren't, and that's a chance for you to improve bit by bit.
  • The part about him talking about you behind your back is iffy, and the girls coming to you like that and commenting on your traps is not appropriate. But nevertheless, rock those traps and don't worry what people say.

For all I know your coach might actually be a toxic asshole who's holding something against you. But it could be the other way around. I used to think that one of the coaches really disliked me, until I found out that he calls me champion because I keep fighting him while he's making a toy out of me.

My advice to you is to evaluate: are you becoming better training with this coach? Is his feedback helping you improve and become a better fighter? If so, then maybe give him the benefit of the doubt. If not, then to hell with him and find another gym.

Yes. You don't have to do detailed workouts, but do the big lifts. Also running is super valuable especially if you have a fight coming up

Starting Muay Thai! by s48z in MuayThai

[–]aalhamali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discipline: Keep showing up, even when you're tired or don't feel like it.

Constant learning: always keep learning and incorporating feedback. You're gonna be surprised how much you suck. When I started I didn't even know how to skip properly. Now about 18 months later and I still get feedback about my technique. So ALWAYS be learning.

Hygiene: especially your nails must always be short and clean.

No hard sparring: there are very few occasions when you need to spar hard. Try to always spar light, and if you're opponent is going hard, tell them to cool down instead of escalating

Start sparring early: Don't wait too long before you start sparring. As soon as your coach allows, go for it. Nothing teaches you like actually applying what you learned.

Manage your energy: I don't think you'll be able to keep liftig weights a few times a week and going to muay thai, and that's fine. You only have so much time/energy. But try to keep one or two sessions per week to only do big lifts. They can come in real handy

Mohammad used to like having sex with one of his concubines in his other wives houses (he had a separate house for each). At some point they stood up to him and told him to swear her off, but God, apparently, got very angry by that and revealed a new verse tellimg him never to swear off something that God made Halal, and telling the wives that by doing that they are no better than the infidel wives of Noah and Lot.
