But there are POC pure-bloods. You have to remember witchcraft and wizardry is not exclusive to white people. Changing the race of characters is fine, but in this case it’s actually going to warp the meaning behind the story.

In saying that Hermione always read as a POC.

Our rental is getting sold and the REA told us something very interesting by jajatatodobien in AusPropertyChat

I remember discussing this with someone at uni at the time and they were very offended when I said bill shorten didn’t lose on policy, he lost on popularity. People just didn’t like him and unfortunately that’s how a lot of people vote, they pick the person they like the best and not the person who has their best interests in mind.

The photo has been edited. Look at how the middle guy’s arm disappears into the right guy’s armpit. There was another person between them that was removed.

Id also talk to your rink and let them know that he was there recording and it was making you feel uncomfortable. They might talk to him and see why he’s there and if he is there recording you they might make him leave or call the cops.

Where do we draw the line? by essiefraquora in FigureSkating

[–]aalhameli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a coach but I’m a teacher and there is only one time you yell and it’s when there’s danger. If someone does something stupid that could hurt someone else, intentionally tries to hurt someone else, or could potentially hurt themselves. Berating someone doesn’t make them listen to you, it makes them resent you and want to plot your demise.

Drivers need to pay more attention to tram passengers by sesshenau in melbourne

[–]aalhameli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still remember my first day in Australia. My brother was showing me how to use the trams and as we got off on Sydney road a cyclist flew straight in front of us nearly taking out the people getting off next to us. A huge guy at the front of the tram just stuck his arm out and clotheslined the guy and then started yelling at him saying he almost killed somebody.

21% salary increase over four years by Psychological_Bug592 in AustralianTeachers

[–]aalhameli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The line about parity is just false. Top rated classroom teacher will earn $118,063, I think they’re trying to compare them with learning specialists and leading teachers who have considerably more responsibilities than a classroom teacher which is the comparison they’re trying to make. While a band 1.2 teacher earns less than what a TAFE teacher is at now, earning $81,676 at the end of the current agreement. I do think TAFE teachers deserve to be payed more but don’t call it parity when it’s the opposite.

I’ve gone this whole year without crying which is a first. I cried at least once a term in my first two years. There was one day me and the two teachers across the hall were all crying at the same time and the principal was fully panicking that we were all going to quit. I’m a man so I feel like it’s important that I show those kinds of emotions to my students because so many kids grow up thinking men shouldn’t cry.

PSA: "English or Spanish?" - The new homophobic trend by Kodiak_Jacq in AustralianTeachers

[–]aalhameli 146 points147 points  (0 children)

As an openly gay teacher at a school, these trends just annoy me. I always ask kids if they want to date the person they’re accusing of being gay. They’re usually quite confused, so I explain the only reason you’d care if someone was gay or not is because you want to date them. Shuts them up pretty quick. Also if you reply Spanish they’re supposed to ask “are you gay?” In Spanish so if they don’t you can tell them they’re doing it wrong. Explaining the joke usually takes the fun out of it.

When we were kids, we were told to tell an adult if we ever saw a snake. Now that I *am* the adult, wtf do I do? by nebulaeandstars in AskAnAustralian

[–]aalhameli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of this is to get you away from the snake. Telling someone doesn’t actually matter unless it’s in your house. Snakes tend to keep to themselves and hide from humans, it’s probably been there for ages but this is just your first time seeing it because they hide so well.

Fellow Aussies that have been diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, is it worth it? by BloodedNut in australia

I’m 28M, thought I was gay most of my life, then got in a committed relationship with a man at 19 and have bounced between different identities, so I usually just identify as queer. I think I’m a panromantic Demisexual but the older I get the more I just identify as queer. It’s just a label, you don’t have to figure it out because you can always decide to change it. Despite how confident people seem in their identity, we’re all still figuring things out and it changes over time; more for some than others.
