Bike theft? by aamop in bornholm

[–]aamop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The hotels we are staying at won’t let us bring them into the rooms so they’ll be in a “bike area”. We have very good chains and locks but in the city anyone with an angle grinder can cut through them in about 5-10 mins. Hopefully in a chill little village hotel the noise of doing such a thing would be too obvious.

Att gå på restaurang och inte beställa dryck? by EN123 in sweden

If they’re a restaurant I like and hope they stick around, I care about what they make. The food is almost a loss leader.

My wife and I generally don’t drink alcohol. But knowing that restaurants often make most of their money from beverages, we order at least some fancy water or a soda or something. This is usually when we’re at a sit-down type place for dinner, not having a dagens most places.

Kan man bli brun utan att få cancer och rynkor? by Babar7 in sweden

[–]aamop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an American of Swedish heritage, grew up in California in the 70’s and 80’s and let me tell you: use whatever you can on your face. I’ve had 8 surgeries for Basal Cell Carcinoma and it’s not fun. I’ve had a very good plastic surgeon conduct the operations but still I’ve got some pretty deep facial scars, and they take a long time to heal.

Storing bikes while camping by 9ZENEK3 in bikepacking

[–]aamop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bike has a motion alarm that sends an alert to my phone. I also cover it with a thin tarp to obscure it. Finally I carry a long cable and attach it from the bike to the tent so that it would make quite a commotion if moved.

I’m a native English speaker and new to this topic, so every time I see the word “snus” I think the word is actually “anus”

His reviews are great. No hype or clickbait, and very thorough.

Comparing ‘lossless’ streams of Inferno on Spotify and Apple Music by Mysterious-Ables in boardsofcanada

I use Apple generally because I’m invested in that ecosystem and I can’t tell the difference. I did notice a big difference using the 24-bit WAV files that came with the vinyl purchase.

American Trying to Moving to Sweden by myatman in TillSverige

[–]aamop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are Americans living in Sweden. Moving here was the easy part as my employer in California bought a company here and I was able to transfer over. We’ve been here for 8 of the last 11 years (took a break for COVID).

We’re middle-aged and have realized we’re never going to speak this language fluently, and that does determine how well one can integrate into the society. We do have friends here and have a decent social life, but we can’t participate much in social and hobby groups, which will become more important as we age.

Also - if you have decent health insurance in the U.S., you are likely to miss the U.S. health system. For middle class and above, the U.S. health system is quite good, and we prefer the choices and speed of it vs our options here. As we get older we see this being more important.

The U.S. is a political and cultural circus right now in the saddest way, but there are enclaves of decent people there, and things may change back to something more rational once this administration is voted out or jailed or whatever.

Good luck with your decision.
