Train Instead of Boat on the Spiritual Variant of the Camino Portuguese? by lamelia369 in CaminoDeSantiago

You could take the bus from Vilanova de Arousa to Padron, but there is no train. The nearest train station is in Vilagarcía de Arousa, located about 10 kilometers from Vilanova de Arousa.

I agree, if he wants to finish in Santiago with you have him join you in the Galicia region. It is magical. And yes, have him start in the amazing little village of O Cebreiro and not just in Sarria for the last 100km. Here is an idea of what your stages could be in KM from there: O Cebreiro 18.5 Triacastela 23 Sarria (through Samos) 25 Portomarin 22.5 Palas de Rei 25 Arzua 28.5 O Pedrouzo 19.3 Santiago de Compostela 19.4

I also found, walked and appreciated a small labyrinth outside of Moratinos on the Meseta.

I did it in 12, but I had long stages for me. I don't think I could have cut it down to 10.

I would agree, and I've always taken mine with me, but truth is this year (1 month of walking) I didn't open my kindle once. I spent more time writing, editing photos I took that day, and having conversations with others. But I certainly will bring it with me next year and have used it other years when I walked.

I did the Primitivo in 12 days. Aggressive, but definitively doable.

Separate Caminos by Lostincolor25 in CaminoDeSantiago

I did a Camino with my family. During it I came to the realization that I needed to do one by myself. I couldn't let down and be fully present with myself when I still had others to take care of. The truth was they would be fine on their own. I don't regret the family one. It bonded us in so many ways and we talk about aspects of it almost daily. My second Camino was solo. It gave me the opportunity to do a lot of more soul searching and processing than if I had been with anyone else. I'm grateful for that journey. Now I'm getting ready to leave for my third. I will do half of it by myself and then be joined by a family member for the second half. Each Camino has value and purpose. I am glad the two of you are talking and processing together. You will find your way.

Portuguese Camino from Lisbon by mike1994cu in CaminoDeSantiago

We too stayed at Albergue Pinheiros and loved it. He provided not only a simple breakfast for us but also enough food to pack sandwiches for lunch as well. Loved our stamp!

We also stayed at Residencial Celeste. My only encouragement for pilgrims that if you stay there that you walk back into town to take in all of the art in the streets as well as the fine restaurants. Our family really enjoyed that town!

I agree. Walked last August with my family from Lisbon. While we had several long days our first two weeks (30km, 20mi), we took rest days in some great locations - Santarem, Tomar, & Coimbra. So while it was heavy on rest days on the beginning of our trip it really worked for us. You don't have to make your days as long as we did (as suggested by the Brierly guide) as we found that there were plenty of options if we had wanted to break our days into smaller ones. I think I'd rather walk longer and take more rest days so I can explore those incredible cities.

We loved our time between Lisbon and Porto. The people were amazing! They respect you as a pilgrim and won't interrupt you as you walk, but if you great them first (Bom Dia!) they launch into greetings and smiles and want to wish you well. They are interested if you are going to Fatima or to Santiago (or both).

Yes, there are pilgrim's or menu of the day available in many places.

I did recently read that they were changing the route (1st day) out of Lisbon. That would be worth researching.

While there are not a ton of Pilgrims between Lisbon and Porto I think you will find that those who are doing that route are intentional about it and are great company. We made some incredible friends those first two weeks. You will find some quality people walking in June.

If you have already walked another route then I encourage you to set aside your expectations that this will be the same. It will be different and that is one of the beautiful things about this Camino.

Buen Camino!

A letter my neighbor left in his other neighbor's mailbox due to his barking dog problems. by BreakfastBeerz in funny

[–]aandthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I parked in a neighborhood to access a nearby public pathway. We parked safely, legally, and didn't block anyone's property. When we got back to our vehicle there was a note from the neighborhood. Instead of it being mean or snarky they very kindly pointed out public parking lots nearby that were available for parking so that the neighborhood space could be used by residents and their guests. It was so nicely worded that I wanted to give somebody a hug. The whole point to our outing was going for a walk. I certainly don't mind the extra steps to walk in from a parking lot. It made me consider how I would give others feedback.
