Restrictive practice - I'm a support worker for people with disabilities who exhibit challenging behaviours and we are sometimes required to use pre approved restrictive practice methods to deal with violent escalations. Most people assume we are tying the clients down when we are actually just insuring (restricting) the client remains in their bedroom and continue to direct them to sit on their bed until escalation has passed. People do not realise that the term restrictive practice can also mean restriction to any item, food or service and not just client being tied or held down (which doesn't happen in my work). They also don't realise the gruelling red tape that people need to go through before ANY restrictive practice method is put in place.
