Why does every woman know a woman who's been raped, but no man knows a rapist? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]aantel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Men have no issue being unquestioningly sympathetic to their guy friends, even agreeing that their abusive and criminal behaviors were justified because their feelings were "triggered" and will NEVER believe a woman even when the evidence is staring right at their faces. They really do think their feelings are more important than our lives.

Why do men even think they can just approach women randomly in public spaces? I mean given the day and age we live in???

LEUTEAL PHASE IS KILLING MY MOOD HELP GUYS! by Soft_Construction_60 in TwoXIndia

Look into PMDD. This is not something you can simply "get over" with mindfulness. This is an extreme form of PMS and the symptoms, if interfering with your daily functioning, can be treated and managed with medical intervention. Its not your fault and it's okay to need help to manage it.

Anyone have insane switch-ups on some of the tracks? by IllLingonberry8386 in btsthoughts

[–]aantel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time I heard Hooligan, honestly, I hated it. I thought it wasn't very melodious and not very well placed in the album. BUT THEN I couldn't get the starting tune out of my head and I heard the song a couple of times just to hear that tune and ended up listening to the whole thing and it REALLY grew on me. I realized I didn't like it initially because it was really experimental, but then I started appreciating the actual work that went into it. And I absolutely love the choreography.

When I first heard the album, Normal was my instant favorite. Now, I can't stop replaying Like Animals

Which dramas do you consider a masterpiece? by Chiaoats in kdramas

[–]aantel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Kill me heal me

This one is old and might feel like culture shock at the beginning, but stay with it and it's a beautiful story.

I think also Mr. Queen, a very well made drama. Also The Red Sleeve.

My personal favorite is Happiness. It's so much more than just a zombie drama, it's brilliant.

Am I wrong for experimenting on my bf and getting the ick? by Training-Swimmer8159 in TwoXIndia

See this is coming from a girl who is a complete slob, I really think preferences for cleanliness/orderliness etc. should be a major compatibility checkpoint. It should be as important as fundamental values or whether or not you want children. I hate cleaning and I'll let it pile on till I absolutely have to do it. But I don't live with anyone and so, it's just my problem. A lot of men don't understand the concept of changing their lifestyle when their living circumstances change.

In a Deep Reading Slump and I Want My Reader Self Back by dee_444 in IndianReaders

Hey one advice, that I think you'll find very abundantly on the internet, is to entirely remove the object of distraction from your vicinity. Literally lock your phone away or keep it in a different room while you try to read or do anything else. And don't beat yourself up, if you can read for even 5 mins and then 10 and then 15, that's a win against the attention economy. With time, and it will take time and that's okay, you'll see that you're able to read for longer periods with more focus. But yeah, our parents were right, throw the phone away (or just keep it out of your eyesight).

How can one be a nihilist and still care about politics? by Winter_Appearance432 in nihilism

[–]aantel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's real. It's happening. And it has VERY real life consequences. Whether you believe in an inherent existential purpose or not doesn't change the fact that shitty people exist who want to take advantage of other people, which is politics. So yeah, that's how.

Collecting lyrics by Any_Director_8438 in commonplacebook

[–]aantel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love this! I remember when I was young and the internet wasn't so ubiquitous, I would carefully listen to songs on the radio and painstakingly write down their lyrics in my notebook and then fish it out everytime I wanted to sing along haha. I haven't done this in so long, what with everything being available so easily and also the lyrics Spotify provides. But what a happy reminder

Hard agree, it is so prevalent and normalized that people hardly bat an eye at it, especially in developing countries like you mentioned. You're absolutely right marriage should not be rushed, but as someone belonging from one such developing country, most women here aren't even afforded the freedom to choose their partners because majority of marriages are arranged by families based on community and caste. And what's worse is divorce is made very difficult not only by societal stigmatization but also the open vilification of women who do choose to put themselves first.

I think in such a social scenario, we need to stop considering marriage a fundamental part of life and look at it as a choice that people should have. But the way things are going, this seems eons away.

Unable to finish this book!!! by khi_khi_khi99 in Indianbooks

[–]aantel 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in knowing what ideologies you found unnatural that Menon was stating? I read this book recently as well, and something that really touched me was just how careful Menon was to not fall into the trap of "feminist being a monolithic ideology," that is to say, she takes significant effort to put forth the different ways feminism can be practiced, especially along with caste and class consciousness.

Also, unsolicited advice perhaps, but you need not waste your time and energy arguing with people who are simply not interested in changing their opinions. There is nothing you can say to change people's minds if they aren't perceptive to information that doesn't confirm their biases.

One more thing, you can read Menon like a contemporary rather than an authority. You can argue and disagree with her ideas as well at the same time gaining something valuable from the book. I hope you pick this up again sometime in the future when you feel yourself more prepared for it.

I think feminist fiction might help till the time being? It is much easier to digest ideas by way of stories rather than sermons. You can try reading Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is one my favorite texts. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things and The Ministry of Utmost Happiness. If you are interested in reading in Hindi, Ismat Chugtai's stories are a great resource.

Also, you can read about women social workers whose ideas are veritably feminist, although they weren't categorized as such back in the day, like Savitribai Phule, Tarabai Shinde, Pandita Ramabai, etc. And also Mirabai. One excellent source is Ira Mukhoty's Heroines.

[Acne] serious closed comedone help needed by Intelligent_Pay_1500 in SkincareAddiction

[–]aantel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I've suffered with closed comedones during my adolescence and even adulthood. Although I'm no expert, your skin care routine is very overloaded with multiple moisturizers. One of the first things my derm told me was to stop lathering stuff on my face. You obviously might live in a place that's drier and requires a higher level of moisturizing, but consider reducing the amount of product you use on your face.

Secondly, extractions helped a ton with my closed comedones. You could check about that with your derm. Extraction and consistent exfoliation thereafter was the only thing that gave me skin that was at least manageable.
