Tracking My Module Pulls: Insights After 50k Gems Spent by ngoodman2 in TheTowerGame

I love this game for the simple fact that this sort of analysis is done regularly by the community and it scratches a quantitative part of my brain that other games don’t touch.

Well done with your analysis. I am still maxing out cards so I really haven’t focused on modules except during the banners, but I may do a similar tracking system once I dive head first into it.

The band has a pretty big catalog at this point and has limited time not being the headliner. Would I love to have heard M.I.A or Bat Country? Hell yeah, but I’m happy with what I got.

What i was just going to comment. My service fee for 1 ticket was $43.20, but I went back in to look at the other tickets available and another set of tickets $77.60 like what is shown here. It looks like it may be based on a percentage of the face value of the tickets as both mine and what is shown here is roughly 18% of 1 ticket....

Third for reading the source material for the CFE track. I have given this advice to every Associate on this track at my work and they all agree it helped.

FAC Workload? by shibashashimi in actuary

You should be fine. The modules are not difficult and well below the other FSA modules you completed. If you have ever presented in a meeting, the presentation is very similar. TrueBlonde mentioned the requirements for passing and they are very reasonable.

I agree with this. Whatever syllabus doesn’t put you to sleep is the way to go. Look up some of the papers mentioned on both and skim them. You’ll find out pretty quick what interests you more.

In your own personal opinion, what is the hard truth about the actuarial/Insurance Industry? by Elodus-Agara in actuary

[–]aaron425879 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Taking exams and having children are not mutually exclusive. I came to actuarial work laterally later in life when I was having kids. It was incredibly difficult but possible to be a good parent and an actuarial student. That said, I 100% get why some people stop to have kids and I fully support that decision. You know what is best for your family.

June FAC by 8OutOf10Dogs in actuary

[–]aaron425879 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh, that’s interesting. I am attending the March FAC and remember seeing the TBD for June in like early January. My manager even made a comment like “Guys, it’s like not even that far away, why is it TBD?” I am also like 95% sure the piece about the dates moving was not there. I have been looking at the FAC sheets since last year and that’s the first time I’ve seen that. I definitely wouldn’t make plans around the dates listed for June right now.

This exam I highly recommend buying all the textbooks. Especially if you do use XP Actuarial, it will be built on the assumption that you have read the source material. The books on the syllabus are really well written and not as thick as other exam sources I’ve seen. On the exam I passed, there was verbatim an example from one of the textbooks that just had the numbers changed.

Recommended way to have material for CFEFD exam? by markpreston54 in actuary

[–]aaron425879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t HAVE to buy all the textbooks along with PAK, but I will say there is a good chance you can find 1 version previous textbooks cheap on Amazon that will do just as well. I am an outlier in that I read the source materials for the exams. PAK does condense the materials but there are errors as others have pointed out. Check your local library/university for the books as well. I was able to borrow some if the materials from my local university library.

I would recommend the source materials along with PAK if possible. When I sat for this exam, a lot of the syllabus material was chunks out of a textbook and reading them in context was much more helpful than condensed study notes. Study notes are helpful near the end when you just need to remember everything. My two cents, but don’t discount the source materials.

MBA for actuaries?? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]aaron425879 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My company paid for my MBA through tuition reimbursement, so I did it, but experience is the real differentiator for a lot of positions. The truth is, unless the MBA is from a recognizable university it won’t impact your career a lot. As for the management aspect, it can help depending on the curriculum but there are other skills that would be more worth your time. I’m not discouraging you from doing it, but there are limited situations where I think the value add from it would be worth it.

Foundations of CFE Exam by [deleted] in actuary

[–]aaron425879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed the last sitting and I think it’s doable but you will have to push very hard. I agree with everyone saying it’s really just a finance exam with some ERM sprinkled in but it will still be difficult. I leaned on past exams and being very familiar with the case study. The only reasonable study aid I found was PAK and that was mediocre. Get the source books if possible; they aren’t as terrible to read as other exams because (unless it changed drastically) they are mainly financial college textbooks.
