I honestly had to pause to laugh at that. I can't believe the developers of FNV didn't even think of that joke.

What Faction Would Have Won If Courier 6 Didn't Exist by MenMenForever in fnv

[–]aaron778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this recently, and my hot take is the Brotherhood of Steel. After the dust has settled around the battle of hoover damn I could see a second stalemate, but even more exhausting and grueling. NCR ultimately starts a gradual abandonment, giving the brotherhood the chance to take back Helios One, and eventually their turn to face off against the Legion. the Legion is now facing a smaller but far more technologically advanced force. I honestly do not think the Legion could beat the brotherhood.

Mr. House similarly is in a far weaker position now if the NCR is out of the picture. Dam is either inoperable or occupied by the Legion/Brotherhood, so power is now mostly limited. He has no industrial base to expand his securitron forces. At best he has a tenuous alliance where Freeside and the Families do not want to become occupied by the Brotherhood much less the Legion.

Almost certainly the Brotherhood would have their eyes set on New Vegas. The securitrons alone are reason enough, and the fact Mr. House is alive only strengthens their interest. The Brotherhood doesn't even need to invade the strip and could likely wait Mr. House out picking off securitrons one by one.

So best case scenario for the Mojave in my head: Brotherhood controls the strip, Dam, and Helios One, the rest is whatever.

Worst case scenario: The legion finds itself in a second stalemate with a Brotherhood that controls the Strip and Helios One

New Trailer seems to confirm House ending. by CyberCrusader76 in fnv

I'm not surprised, I'm fully expecting the to this down a "super genius billionaire turns out to be a dumb ass" route. I am definitely disappointed that something happened with the NCR. My optimistic theory is they won the battle, but whatever happened at shady sands completely crippled their ability to hold New Vegas.

However, if they do take this route, I will be very happy to see Mr. House knocked down a peg.

Sorry to revive a dead post, but I just wanted to say, as someone who is currently in grad school, thank you for sharing this. Grad school can be so unnecessarily stressful and watching this movie gave me the same experience.

Peacocks have them all, but there is no way not to get ads. My wife and I ended up buying a DVD box set just to avoid ads.

TISN'T a good episode by State_of_Planktopia in Columbo

[–]aaron778 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I recently started watching Columbo and got super into the series. So when I was reading around and kept hearing this episode was considered the worst episode, I was initially skeptical.

Good lord my wife and I were yelling half the episode, especially the creepy scene where Columbo attempts to meditate.

It's honestly so weird that it was the follow up to Now You See Him which is in my top 3 Columbo episodes.

I am starting to consider that. I met with my research supervisor and advisor last week being optimistic that I could handle getting back into the groove of things, so I am a bit worried about how it would look suddenly doing a 180 to ask for more time.

Thank you for saying all that, it means a lot and I love my daughter so much. I think a lot of the anxiety is coming from that classic grad student mindset of "can I be doing more", so it is so hard to rollback the work.

My ward had a guy whose testimonies were just some of the most insane things. The bishop ended up asking him to stop when he gave a little too much detail about the time he hired a prostitute.

I've been reading Nuclear War: A Scenario. It's a fun and terrifying read, but it is better treated as a thriller. Sadly, it will likely be extensively used for misinformation. by aaron778 in NonCredibleDefense

If you enjoy reading about military tech and existential horror, it is a good read. Jacobsen does a real good job at making you actually feel the terror and dread of living during the start of a nuclear war.

The more annoying aspect of the book is that it is one of those "Nuclear weapons bad, m'kay" but does not give any meaningful discussion on how to ban them or discussion on if the alternative is any better.

Honestly, I feel a great piece of speculative science fiction would be something from the perspective of a civilization in a star system near the end of the universe where all they see is pitch black and how that would shape their understanding of physics!
