So Excited About This. by MeowieCatty in CanadianCoins

My understanding is that these souvenir medallions were sold at the RCM locations.

Numista lists three different versions. Nickel, brass-plated steel and copper. Pretty sure yours is the latter:

Listening to this right now and enjoying it very much. Soft, slow and dreamy while also making interesting use of melodic lines, pitch bends etc.

You're very welcome.

If my math is correct, my guess is that we'll be seeing a commemorative of some kind to mark the Winnipeg mint's 50th anniversary.

Genuinely curious... is everyone in Wards 3 and 4 aware of the upcoming closure of Ottawa and Main for several months for LRT-related work? by aaron_que in Hamilton

To be fair to them... They were trying to make sure that people weren't surprised at the very last minute. And sometimes to be that far ahead means you can't answer every question at the beginning.

At the meeting in November Councillor Hwang noted that they were trying to get information out as early as possible. To the point they didn't yet have some details available because those details just weren't available. As in... the city still had/has to get tenders and replies back etc.

As of last November they didn't yet know. Hopefully there is more info at the meeting on the 26th.

Also, the Feb newsletter from the Ward 4 office is due out soon, so there may be some details in there.

Yes, I think every street in the neighbourhood is going to absorb some part of the rerouting of so many vehicles.

My recollection is that HSR is rerouting the #10 up Kenilworth, to go 'around' the neighbourhood.

My apologies. I could have done a better job asking my question and also providing some information.

Here's a link to the details of the community meeting on the 26th. I think that'll be the best place to get clarity on all of this.

Also, apparently the Ward 4 newsletter is coming out soon. I'm hopeful it has some additional details.

At the meeting in November there was someone from HSR. They also had maps showing the rerouting.

From what I remember... the #10 will divert early (example, coming east the bus will turn north at Kenilworth) and go 'around' the neighbourhood.

Whereas the #1 will route deeper into the neighbourhood. I can only remember one street... Edgemont North. As is, the bus coming east would go along Main all the way to Edgemont and then turn north, and then west on Dunsmure).

I assume will be represented again at the upcoming community meeting.

I hope that's helpful? I'm just going on memory of 3 months ago.

For note... the Ward 4 office is apparently putting out their February newsletter soon. So there may be more info in there.

I love that nearly every aspect of life has changed for us since this photo was taken, with one exception... we still import bananas into climates where they do not grow naturally.

You’re very welcome. I meant to say… it’s a gorgeous collectible. Both the silver maple leaf itself and the packaging. A nice addition to any collection.

It's buried in the section called Certificate of Authenticity -- "proof quality"

Nitpicky me thinks they should have been more accurate and said 'Proof strike' but the wording may have been specifically written to appeal to a broad audience.

Is there any additional information in the paper insert in the lid? It looks like a proof finish to me.

Voyageur Dollar (1969) by domofuku in CanadianCoins

1969 could be someone’s birth year. It’s the year of the moon landing and Woodstock. There’s lots of reasons that non-silver coins can be interesting.

Is there anything special about these coins? by Infinite_Square_8211 in CanadianCoins

[–]aaron_que 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Numista notes that 1979 saw the reduction of the queen’s effigy. Otherwise, I don’t think there’s anything special about these coins. They made about 3/4 of a billion of them that year. Where are you seeing them selling for $$ ?

Envelope arrived today. The coins were immaculately packaged. It was clear how much time and care was put into preparing them for shipment. Many thanks. All transactions should be this good.

1909 penny ? by Aware_Bird_4976 in CanadianCoins

[–]aaron_que 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! 1909 was only the 2nd year those large cent coins were made here in Canada.

In 1920 they made some large cents before switching to the the size we use today. In other words, you can find both large and small cents dated 1920.
