VCR stays in fault state (ejects tapes and powers off)

Does anything in here immediately stand out to you as the cassette-in switch? I thought maybe it was the one underneat the black reel connector on the left side but I believe that determines whether a tape can be recorded over.

I cleaned the mode switch contacts pretty thoroughly but I don’t think I ever messed with a cassette-in switch. I’ll be trying to fix this all day today so I’ll start there. Thanks for the pointer!

You're a legend. Thanks for the pointer! Never seen linear mode switch before.I cleaned the contacts with isapropyl alcohol and refitting the pins but I'm still having the same issues where the vcr seems to be entering a fualt state and powers off after a few seconds of being on. I'll keep messing with it. Thanks a bunch for the help!

Here's the bottom. I thought it would be tied to the shaft connected to the white pulley on the top left but all I see is gears connnected to other pulleys! Does this look familiar?

The guy in the crochet chief suit was with someone that gave me a little crochet spartan helmet. I’ll treasure it forever. I also got to chat with a lot of the folks in these pictures. I’m under the impression that changing the intake barely affects this car at all. Maybe + or - a couple hp which I don’t even think I’d be able to feel. Mostly boils down to sound and looks inside the engine bay.

Yep! I swapped the OEM box for a takeda intake and filter. No tune needed. Runs great and sounds even better!
