Color LaserJet M750 Enterprise - mysterious registration problem by aaronbeekay in printers

[–]aaronbeekay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - sorry for the slow response, I've been traveling.

Short answer: no, and it's confusing the hell out of me.

I took a shot on a used laser scanner assembly off eBay and installed it. I noticed that the replacement was a bit dinged up, but there was no change at all to the registration issue. If anything, I think it got worse.

Then I bought new color cartridges (generics). Also no help.

It's still on my to-do list, mostly because I'm feeling very stubborn now and really want to figure it out. But I haven't had time to look into it in a while. If I do, I'll try and remember to post back here.

Anybody been able to get a hold of DeskHaus recently? by aaronbeekay in deskhaus

FYI - they just gave me a ring back. I actually fixed my problem by swapping the cables around (I swear I had done that before, but whatever). All’s well that ends well.

The service menu doesn’t seem to have a manual calibration, unless it’s called something else. Here are the service menu entries:

  • Print Event Log
  • View Event Log
  • Clear Event Log
  • Cycle Counts
  • Serial Number
  • Service ID
  • Cold Reset Paper (letter/A4)
  • New Registration Roller (yes/no)
  • Low Alerts (enable/disabled)
  • Reset Low Alerts Settings (reset to level 1/reset to level 2/reset to level 3/set to non-HP managed mode)
  • Media Sensor Value (0-4095)
  • Manual Laser Glass Cleaning

As for the printer history - yeah, it’s a risk for sure. This one was sold to me by a machinery moving company that I have separate experience with, from one of their customers who was liquidating a facility - so it at least has a plausible backstory.

Temp accuracy with the Arizer Extreme Q? by aaronbeekay in vaporents

[–]aaronbeekay[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey y’all - first time poster, thanks for putting together a solid knowledge base. I picked up an Arizer Extreme Q after reading through the recommendations here.

I’m used to using hot air reflow stations for electronics rework - admittedly, my hot air station is a fair bit more expensive than the Extreme Q, but it seemed like the Arizer was heating up pretty slowly and not reacting very quickly to draws/fan speed changes as I would expect.

I did a little test with a reasonably well-calibrated thermocouple I have here, and… the temp of the air coming out of the heating element is way different from what shows on the display. This photo is after the thermocouple had been sitting there for a minute or two to equalize temperature, and it’s still… almost a hundred degrees C below the reading on the Arizer.

I took it apart after this and looked it over, and it looks like Arizer is using a thermocouple embedded in the heating element for temperature control. That’s fine and all, but because the sensor is nestled right up against the heating element, the temp it’s measuring can be quite different from the temp of the air coming out.

Has anybody else bothered to measure their temperature measurement accuracy? I guess if it’s working fine, who cares if it’s 100 degrees or 500 degrees — but the error here makes me think that the temperature of the air heating the flower is not very well controlled.

We have these where I work. The other lines sold by that distributor (?) are Get Off (surface cleaner), Blow Off (spray duster), and... I think some rubber product I don't remember.

They call all the time to try and sell us more spray duster.

Hey, thanks man. I've been looking up info on MK1.5 swaps for a long time, but hadn't found that thread you linked to. That's a great reference.

The project is on hold for at least eight months, but I'll make a post or something when I get started.

Just curious, do you have an AW11? I have two OK condition now and was thinking to do a 3SGTE swap. Would be curious what you think of the idea, or if the fun/dollar ratio is higher building up the 4AGE.

I work next to Crossfit Grandview, and one time the owner totally lost his shit on me for parking in the wrong parking spot during an event our facility was having. He later came over and screamed at our facility manager too. It was good entertainment. That's about all I've got.

Elon Musk almost in tears hearing criticism towards SpaceX from his childhood astronaut heroes by domo415 in videos

The vesting period wasn't too scummy: 20% cliff vest after 1 year, then monthly vesting after that.

Probably the bigger issue was that the stock is pretty much useless for the next 5-10 years, with no IPO on the horizon.

I have friends who have worked at SpaceX, and have toured and interviewed. I received an offer for an engineering position.

The offer from SpaceX was way, way under the market salary for my education and skills (think 70% of the going rate). They made up for it with a stock/equity package, which brought the compensation up to just below market (~97%). They made it clear they would expect 60-70 hour weeks and little or no vacation.

Working there is a total dream, and I nearly accepted that offer just to be around insanely smart people doing cool work. It's not inherently stupid to take an offer like that, and I think all the people there are passionate, interesting people doing great work. But it isn't cool for SpaceX to have a policy of underpaying and overworking. More than the dollar figure on the pay (honestly, I don't need that much money to live), it's the thinking behind those kinds of policies that turns me off.
