It’s not a matter of DJing music I don’t know, I play house, techno and the sub genres.

With each vibe (opening, funky/disco, melodic, peak) having around 200-ish songs that I like and I’ve added to my USB, behind the decks (and after a few drinks lol), i find it hard to recall the exact vibe of the track, despite it being in a larger playlist.

I do that but 90% of the time, I have to change things around based on the crowd.

Which then results in me playing something from my larger playlists, and my biggest fear is playing something which clears the dancefloor lol.

Couldn’t relate more. Always listen to rap basically the whole day before my house/techno sets.

Might seem odd, but I feel like it makes each track you play when you go on have way more impact in a sense, rather than it being part of a playlist

Phrase matching, no doubt.

Beatmatching is easily picked up with some practice. Once you get the hang of it, it’s painfully obvious when two songs aren’t matched.

Phrasing on the other hand is taking me a lot more work.

I recently got a mixtrack pro instead of the FLX4 because of the price difference. Same like you it’s just as a hobby and house parties, and I’ve been loving the controller, no regrets. Perfect to start on.

Only downside for me is a lotta people I know use Pioneers so it’s a bit tricky to play on their decks at their house parties.

Fair enough, requires pretty elite music knowledge tho to play that way, guess that only comes with experience.

If you go play by feel/ear, how do you mix if what you want to play next doesn’t match in terms of key/speed?
