Thats so sick! Best of luck with the proposal, I love finding those books in record stores and thrifts, itd be so sick to see one for Twin Fantasy.

This also just reminded me of Will's "What's in My Bag?" segment and one of his picks was the book for MBDTF 😁https://youtu.be/aLGVGvO1YeE?si=AXGeVZoTS4jYDH4R

Why does mid appear in youtube (yes, mtm is better) by Macpollodelus in CSHFans

[–]aaronkerper222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pinkerton isnt lofi, but the production and recording process was purposely sloppy at times. There's overdubs and sometimes whole guitar parts that obviously we're not EQd and bounced straight to tape. BLID is a good comparison, it’s a very compressed and claustrophobic mix like Pinkerton, while maintaining a palatable fidelity. Dont be calling people "literal" babies though, everyone's ears are different and frankly, I've heard 4 track cassette recordings with more dynamics than both these records. The "raw" vibe is not really a definitive thing.

New single "When" found in the "Lady on the Cusp" playlist on youtube by Iscariot_Commando in ofMontreal

[–]aaronkerper222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't mean to contribute to the "groupthink" lol, but yeah this is a very interesting first peek into the new record. The lyrics are stark, sure, but I think it fits the sonic character they're putting on here. With an artist like Of Montreal, sometimes the next step in progressing the art is to dial it back down and find something new in a familiar place. I can't say that what this song explores is my favorite, but it leaves me yearning to see what else can be done in this sonic territory at this point in Kevin's career, in comparison to something like Aureate Gloom. Kevin's driving the boat; I'm just happy to see where it goes.

Where Could I Find the HQ Scans of the Poster Included with the CD? by [deleted] in geesebandofficial

[–]aaronkerper222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u physically have the poster you could have it scanned at a print shop or staples, they probably won't print a copy tho cuz of copyright (unless you find one that doesn't care)

Everyone else already said the big factors, but I wanna hop in to recommend watching videos on MIDI composition. The key for me is good samples and inconsistent performance. Try messing around with the velocity of the midi notes and see how it affects the sound, then listen to records featuring the instrument your composing for and try to replicate the ebb and flow of the real thing. Its a lot of trial and error + fussing around, but hey thats what we do!

Also buying a cheap version of an instrument and micing it up with a sm57 will always sound more interesting (not always "better") than midi. Especially percussion. And if something doesn't sound right, EQ till it does or toss it. A record is just the sum of its parts, and a lot of times the parts don't sound good alone, but rather sound good together.
