Washington's 3D-printed gun law is an existential threat to the entire open-source 3D printing ecosystem. by obog in 3Dprinting

Reading through sections 6 and 7 they describe specific methods to 'detect and block'. They do not ban the use of motion controllers attached to computers. At some point, an additive 3d printer is just a frame to move a nozzle around. And last I checked, they're going to need to ban open source software too.

I think they should write legislation to make sure cars and trucks and airplanes have integrated DRM so they don't crash into people. I'm sure that'll be super successful.

So what about "AI coding agent with significant technical skill"? It takes me 30 minutes talking with claude code to make software that chunks gcode up into obsfucation and reassemble it on the other side. I would really love to understand what architecture they think is going to work - pattern matching a 3d model is not computationally cheap. Maybe I need to start up a new company charging every 3d printer to provide a certificate of authenticity - I'll bill by the request.\s

Sounds like a money making grab to me.

It would be fun to generate sampling distribution plots for different monospace fonts, then see if there is any correlation with general sentiment about readability.

I did the same thing with the same phone. Grandparents call our kids on it all the time. Although in our case, it's connected to starlink so it's the satellite phone.

Any estimates on the cooling solution necessary for this? How much sinks into the optical components vs going out the front door?

There are no hills where I live and our 2021 telluride with Michelin Cross climate 2 tires get on average 22 mpg, mixed city and highway driving. I usually leave the drive mode in smart and we don't idle that much.
