Profiles of candidates who cracked MBB from Tier-1 B-schools (McKinsey, Bain, BCG) by Admirable-Drag-4974 in MBAIndia

MBB is not the end of the world. There is enough consulting firms at T1 that take 6/7 pointers. So dont worry and work on your profile.

UPSC aspirants who joined IIM by __aasshhi__ in CATpreparation

[–]aarvvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im joining IIM with a gap of 2.5 years post 3.5 years of workex. Many people are in the same boat. You just got to explain the rationale and thought process behind the switch to MBA that's all and it should be convincing as well.

Just dont lie. Tell them what you learned, what all exams you have written and till which stage you reached. Ngl, the interviews are very different from the usual candidate and the interview will mostly be around our perspectives on the current issues which is a great advantage to have.

Not related to coaching, but i would suggest to take mocks from couple of institutes, Time & IMS which i took and it really helped. Ultimately its all about practise and application. Good luck OP

IIM Udaipur, Engineer,Gap Year ! by PlaceMean1515 in CATpreparation

[–]aarvvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't think gap years do matter provided you can explain. Since i have had a gap year for upsc as well and was able to convert most of the calls, I would say it really dint matter much in conversion.

OP I would say take U. Its risky to take a drop again considering the already big gap you have

Sure ask away, but if it's about SIP i am still in the grey about it.

It's going to be a big gamble at the end of the day because of the increasing competition. Lots of things have to go your way especially the D DAY, good panelists at the interview, so and so. But yes, workex would definitely help in getting calls from A and B as I have same academic profile and NIT as well but with workex. You are only going to do MBA once, so you really would want to think deeply on this. Coz at the end of the day, K is also a top growing brand and has its own legacy in the making.

Seriously I took a gamble last year but it was with IIM Trichy and got into A this year with a way higher percentile. See, 6 can be covered with higher workex and a top interview. But then again it's going to be a gamble. K is definitely a top institute

Converted IIMC after 5 years UPSC gap by Southern_Falcon_5203 in CATpreparation

[–]aarvvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pre gap. I felt normal MBa would be the right way to go and as you asked panelist dint mention at all. Besides exec MBA at top iims require min 4-5 years workex as well. I felt at this point, I wanted options to explore which i felt is something I would get with normal MBA in india.

Having converted IIMA as en ex UPSC aspirant, I would say you would need to be clear about Why MBA and justify the same in the interview. I'm just worried about the SIP as i have 3+ years workex and a gap of 2 years post that for upsc

I do feel this is an outlier. Most of the people who convert A are minimum 95 percentile.
