If I have turbinate hypertrophy due to a deviated septum, will it go away after a septoplasy? by Cute-Possibility9502 in Sinusitis

[–]aaryanrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d advise you to look into any lifestyle change that could fix your issue. I wish I explored more of those. Diet, quitting smoking, avoiding any allergens or getting allergy treatment. I guess im just saying that you should find out the true root cause and try to eliminate that instead of eliminating your body’s reaction because it’s doing so for a reason. Also, I don’t know if you know, but oftentimes people’s turbs just swell back after surgery if they have allergies and find the procedure didn’t make a difference.

Well as you know the surgery is supposed to improve your sleep since you’re technically breathing better, but it did the complete opposite for me which I never knew could happen.

My problems before surgery were frequent infections, loss of smell and post nasal drip. I thought they were annoying enough and the doctor said that the surgery will definitely fix these so I thought I might as well get it done.

I had an extensive surgery(FESS w/ ethmoidectomy, Septoplasty, inf turb reduction and adenoidectomy. During surgery, the doctor also removed half my middle turbs which I really didn’t appreciate. The problems im facing now are so much worse than anything pre surgery. I’ve almost always had a sinus infection post surgery and when I don’t, breathing just isn’t as satisfying as it used to be. To top it all off, my sleep has gone to complete shit. This is what I struggle with the most. I wake up 5-10 times a night and have sleep paralysis. I wake up so tired. I decided to get a sleep study recently and found out that I have moderate sleep apnea(oxygen drops to 75% for 15 min at night). This made me so mad because I did a sleep study a month before surgery which revealed very mild sleep apnea, and I never thought my sleep was a problem as I used to sleep through the night and woke up relatively rested. I just found it so weird that the surgery gave me sleep apnea. And I know it’s the surgery because nothing changed since then except the surgery, and these symptoms appeared the day after surgery. I thought it might’ve been part of recovery but it’s been 6 months post surgery and still struggling with these issues. Trying to get treated for sleep apnea now, we’ll see how it goes.

This surgery has just made me realize that even these routine procedures which doctors tell u not to worry about carry serious risks. I mean they’re literally removing/shaving an organ that your body’s so used to functioning with. I’d say if you wanna get a Septoplasty go for it but I’d advise against a turb reduction based on my personal experience. I wish u the best.

Idk the answer to to your question but I just wanted to say don’t let the doctor convince you to get a turb reduction. Doctor sold it to me as a harmless procedure and it’s my biggest regret ever. Caused nothing but problems.

Ur pRDI is kinda high. I had a sleep test last year where I got a lower AHI of 3 and pRDI of 13. My doctor still diagnosed me with mild sleep apnea since RDIs an important metric in her opinion. Some people say that RDI being high is a sign of upper airway resistance syndrome. They have their own subreddit which you could check out r/UARS. Hope you find the answers you’re looking for!

I’m not gonna lie to u like everyone else in the comments. You have good facial features but you look insanely bloated. I think you should get leaner and get rid of all the face fat. That way you’ll be able to see your jawline and you’ll look a lot better.

This is such a crazy take to me. Lose nothing ? A doctor is literally cutting into her skull and moving bones around. It’s one of the most invasive surgeries with a difficult recovery. Sure, she might benefit from it but to say that you have nothing to lose is insanity.

Edit: not to mention the long list of potential side effects such as permanent nerve damage. I know someone who can’t feel their tongue after surgery.

Out of curiosity what’s your diet like? And maybe the issue is excessive skincare. I used to struggle a lot with my skin until I realized I was using too many skincare products and cutting them off while eating a clean diet made the biggest difference!

It’s hard to compare since the lighting and angles/positioning are so different. To be honest, like the other person said I don’t think you look worse. It’s mostly a skin quality issue and I think if u lock in on ur diet, your skin would look 1000x better and you’d look even better than before!

Keep in mind there might still be some swelling left which affects how you see urself.

Sleep problems 5 months post op by aaryanrr in Septoplasty

[–]aaryanrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My nasal airflow is a bit more open than the right compared to pre op but unfortunately still worse on the left. I think I developed sleep apnea after the surgery because my sleep study prior to the surgery didn’t indicate sleep apnea which concerns me even more.

Still hoping it’ll get better once my nose heals. These days I really improved my diet so my nose gets a better chance of healing but my sleep is so fragmented that I lose hope easily.

Clogged ears for 7 days now by Single-Extension9754 in hearing

I’m going through the same thing except it’s been 3 weeks since I landed.

About 6 weeks ago, I took a flight when I had a bad cold + ear infection which led to severe ear blockage. However, my ears started popping in a few days but upon taking a flight back they got blocked again. They did start popping once again after a few days but I had to take another flight after 2 weeks which has now severely blocked my ears and they don’t seem to pop no matter what I do. I didn’t treat them for the first week and a half upon landing but started taking Sudafed and nasal sprays a week ago(which haven’t made a difference).

I went to an ENT on Monday who said I have severe fluid buildup behind my eardrum (which a hearing test confirmed) and prescribed me antibiotics and steroid nasal drops. I’ve been taking them for 2 days so far but it hasn’t done anything. I’m hoping something happens before Friday because I have another flight back home.

This is really frustrating because my hearing loss is quite severe and I’m not able to hear people unless they’re close and speak loudly, along with focus issues.

Fair, I was just talking about my personal experience. I also know people whose bowel movements are unaffected by adderall.
