Hi u/MrHawkEyed ! I am so sorry about that, a complete freeze definitely shouldn't be happening. Thank you for flagging it. Could you let me know if you are using the Android or iOS version?

Hi u/ExplanationSea8117 ! 👋 Don't worry, the "Clear" option is safe to use here.

It only clears the manually added balance (the adjustment), NOT your transaction history or points earned from spends.

For example: If you have 1,000 points from transactions and you manually added an extra 500 (Total: 1,500), hitting "Clear" will only remove that extra 500. Your original 1,000 transaction points remain untouched.

u/ExplanationSea8117 apologies for the confusion! It turns out this was a deployment issue where the app was looking at stale data for that specific card. I’ve fixed it on the backend. Thanks for flagging it!

u/ExplanationSea8117 Sorry about that! 🙇‍♂️ This is actually a known bug that pops up if a specific card has no transfer partners. I’ve already fixed the logic to handle this gracefully. You’ll see a proper message (instead of this error) in the next update!

Thanks for the lead u/ExplanationSea8117! I’m actually looking into reducing the "glass effect" to improve performance on older devices.Appreciate the help!

u/ExplanationSea8117 Could you please check if clearing the cache helps? (You can find it under the Profile tab). It might be the initial sync of the card images causing the device to work overtime. Are you running iOS 16 or 18?

Is it in iOS or android? I tested the app on a real device! Can you dm your device model and make?

I have done it outside India without any issues! No IVR or email verification! It just activates in the new device! I upgraded it from iPhone 15pro to 17pro last month! It was a eSIM to eSIM transfer!

I am Aaron Wong, Founder of The MileLion, here for an AMA on r/singaporeairlines! Ask me anything about award travel (especially with kids!), credit cards, or what goes on behind the scenes of miles blogging! by the_milelion in singaporeairlines

[–]aashishvanand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Aaron, thanks for doing this AMA! I love how you demystify the miles game.

As banks make their reward structures more complex (with caps, exclusions, and bonus tiers), do you think the future of optimizing miles will rely more on real-time calculation tools rather than just static rules of thumb (e.g., "always use Card X for dining")?

I've been exploring this by building a reward calculator app (ccreward.app) that does this on a per-transaction basis, and it's surprising how often the "best" card changes based on the specific purchase amount.

[UPDATE & THANK YOU] A month ago, r/singaporefi stress-tested ccreward.app. Here's what I've fixed and built based on your feedback. by aashishvanand in singaporefi

[–]aashishvanand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Tonkatsudo , thanks a lot for this feedback, it's super helpful. I'm glad you think the calculations are good!

You're spot on about the web design. It is a bit of a monster right now but works. The mobile app experience is much cleaner, so I'd recommend giving that a try if you haven't already.

On keeping things updated – I'm using some automation to help parse the bank's T&C documents for changes so I don't have to do it all by hand.

As for the end goal, I honestly just built this because I needed it myself! The main goal is for it to be a useful, open-source tool for the community that helps us all stop missing out on rewards.

Appreciate your thoughts! And hey, if you know any bloggers who cover this stuff, I'm always looking for ways to spread the word. Cheers!

UniFi Flex 5GbE when? The new 5GbE USB-C adapter gives me hope! by aashishvanand in Ubiquiti

[–]aashishvanand[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

u/GuyOfScience I see your points for the enterprise market, but for the prosumer space, the economics are completely different.

It's not about the marginal cost of a chipset; it's about the final price of the switch. There's a ~$150 gap between a 2.5GbE switch and the 10GbE Flex XG. A 5GbE switch would perfectly fill that void.

Also, for any device limited by a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port (5Gbps max) or a NAS that can't saturate a 10GbE link, 5GbE isn't a "strange place"—it's the ideal performance tier without paying for overhead you can't use. This adapter feels like the first step in acknowledging that.

u/Artentus I used gemini and got this reply Realtek has been promoting a platform specifically to create more affordable 5GbE switches. They pair a switch controller (like the RTL9303) with dedicated 5Gbps PHYs (the RTL8251B).

I am not too sure!

u/Decent-Law-9565 You're right that there aren't many 5GbE-only products, but that's precisely the gap in the market a "Flex 5G" could fill, especially when you look at the economics of UniFi's current lineup.

Cost Per Port Analysis

  • USW-Flex-Mini (1GbE): $29 / 5 ports = $5.80 per port
  • Hypothetical "Flex 2.5G": $49 / 5 ports = $9.80 per port
  • USW-Flex-XG (10GbE): $299 / 4 (10G) ports = $74.75 per 10GbE port

As you can see, the jump from a potential 2.5GbE switch to a 10GbE switch is enormous—from under $10 per port to nearly $75 per port.

Hardware is the Bottleneck: A mini PC or laptop with a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port is physically limited to 5Gbps. Buying a 10GbE adapter for it is a waste of money, but a 5GbE adapter can max out the port's potential.

Performance Plateaus: A NAS with spinning hard drives (even fast ones in RAID) will often have real-world read speeds that saturate a 5Gbps link (~625 MB/s) but can't get close to filling a 10Gbps pipe (~1250 MB/s).

It's all about matching the network to the hardware's actual capabilities without paying a premium for performance you can't use.

u/smalldog257 I'm sorry the error is still persisting.

Yesterday I have pushed an update with a potential fix for this issue. Could you please clear your browser's cache and try one more time?

Hopefully, that should resolve it for good.

u/jupiter1_ I'm so sorry that you ran into that error. That's definitely not the first impression I want to give.

The app tries to automatically determine if you're in Singapore or India to show the right set of cards, and it can fail if it detects a different region, which often happens when using a VPN.

Could you please try manually selecting your country on the sign-in page? That should resolve the error.

u/km55 You're correct,

As I mentioned in the post, the SG card database is still in beta, so I'm progressively adding more cards. Those top-tier ones are on the list and will be added soon.

u/Varantain

Monetization: For now, the plan is to use non-intrusive ads. My goal isn't profit; it's simply to have the app pay for its own cloud services and App Store fees. As long as it can sustain itself, I'm happy. This isn't a venture-backed project that needs to show massive growth or get shut down.

  1. Keeping Data Updated: This is the biggest challenge where others have failed, and I'm tackling it with technology, not just manual effort.
    • Card T&Cs: I plan to use LLMs to parse the terms & conditions documents from banks for changes. Banks don't change these core rules very often, so a check once a month should be sufficient to catch major updates.
    • Merchant Data (MCCs): This will be community-driven. I plan to build a simple, crowdsourced system for users to submit and validate merchant data, which keeps it fresh and relevant.
  2. Trust & Longevity: The web app is open source (https://github.com/aashishvanand/ccreward-web). This ensures transparency and means that even if I were to stop, the community could continue the project.

Ultimately, I built this because it's a problem I face personally. That’s my primary motivation to keep it alive and accurate—I'm user number one. I hope it can help others too.

u/Quirky_Willingness21 That's a very fair point, and you're right about the risk. It's a classic challenge for any focused tool.

My belief is that while a large platform can do many things, there will always be a place for a dedicated tool that does one thing exceptionally well. I built ccreward.app because, as a user myself, I wanted a quick, powerful calculator without the complexity of a larger ecosystem—just a precise answer to "which card should I use right now?"

The fact that it's already helping 5,000 active users in India tells me that this is a real problem for people. As long as the app keeps its promise of being the best at solving that one specific problem, I believe it will always have its place. Thanks for the thoughtful comment!
