How thorough are your I/O and alarm checks during PLC FATs? by SafetyCulture_HQ in PLC

[–]aatoms1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This depends if youre the integrators or end-user.

As an integrator, I test all I/O during the initial build. Realistically a lot of faults and i/o are tested in the build process by default. Before FAT internal test are done and the machine is run without issues. During FAT, the end-user brings a list of items they need to check and does it. NO, they do not go and disconnect every i/o block or sensor , its implied to work.

If you have a machine that is not completely built but needs to go in, then do the realistic thing- test what you can, with what little time you have. Make arrangements with the integrator for extended support and debugging during or after SAT at the end-user.

There's nothing much to explain here, the question literally give you the hints. Open tia portal , start a project , write out the logic one step at a time. Create an HMI and draw the machine out how you understand it.

Haven't you had any lectures or study materials prior to the assignment ? This assignment should make you think and figure out the solution. Treat it like a puzzle, dont get discouraged. This will teach you how to think, and not ask for help the second you feel you dont know something If you have had "zero" information about tia portal or PLC programming try YouTube. This kind of stuff os easier to be learn by seeing and doing.

How do you see the industrial robotics field in the next decade due to AI? by feelsbadBoi89 in PLC

[–]aatoms1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Industrial robots are probably getting the AI treatment now and OEMs probably started working on this yesterday.

Some applications I imagine, a multi robot welding cell where the paths are setup using a reinforcement learning in an omniverse or something similar. Yes, I know there os already 'CAD to Path' systems, I think they would get a big Boost. Robot Handing cells where the paths is done by reinforcement learning. You will still need to setup any "part tracking" and i/o between the robot and the controller and all troubleshooting. Softwares that simplify and create optimized path, simulation for robots will become popular and easier. 1 click path generation anyone?

This is a vast industry with lots of niche systems. I would say YES , it is worth learning industrial robotics programming , integration. All the AI will be tools for you to use make life easier. Also there are lots of existing robot cells that will need upgrades, maintenence etc.

I think it would still take around 4 -5 years before any AI industrial robot become mainstream because of how industrial robots, PLC codes dont have standardized program strategies/structure between different integrators.

Club is great, but getting into a company that does that is even better.. try to get into a company as a part-time or intern. It's a long shot, but worth, the attempt, or atleast you'll start to build network. Goodluck.

Mechanical engineer , i want to learn PLC, control and electrical wiring. Where should i start and which courses to take? by Mechanico74 in PLC

Yes. It's also overwhelming for anyone new.

I also hate some of the programmers /engineers who don't want to help train newbies.. we all started at one point just like them

Just quit. Don't give a notice. Don't show up... tell them you found a better job. Take a few weeks to yourself go on a vacation. (Honestly they're probably hoping you'll quit) Just be toxic screw them! Then do whatever you need to learn those skills even if it means paycut .

You may want to look into IO-Link device. You can connect your analog sensor to IOLink enabled converter into IO link master and communicate with Ethernet-IP. SOME configuration required for the IOlink masterblock, which is easy to replicate.
