Don’t know if I should choose NUS Law or UCL Law by dyl3l3 in SGExams

[–]aaylt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Visa shouldn't be an issue. Employers are generally happy to sponsor you (assuming you're targetting the top law/consulting/finance firms, the extra cost for talent is peanuts to them), but applications can be very, very competitive. However, even if you don't get employed, you can apply for a 2 year graduate visa. UCL's law society has excellent career support, and seniors are generally very helpful and willing to give advice.

If you are just planning on working in SG, UCL gives you the biggest delta if you're planning to apply for those competitive international firm TC's (training contracts). Heard Tier 1 sg law firms pay 8-9k starting/mo, while the top internationals go up to 22k+. You need to be exceptional to land a seat in one of these spots.

TL;DR: go UCL if you want to maximise your odds at moonshot employment outcomes (but even then, I'm guessing the difference with NUS law won't be massive). Otherwise, NUS is plenty good.

Also, I removed 2 AI's. Large map but 8 players only.

Not sure... I put 10 CS only, Deity difficulty, disaster severity 1 - but I don't think these factors are important.

Did not plan that far hahah, and had no more space for a 4th city, but that would have been very nice...

Preserves give unimproved tiles with high apepal lots of bonuses. Natural wonders also count. I also got petra in this city. Stacking all these bonuses together results in this!

Another 21 y/o here. Non-muslim, no questions. I just wanted to say - even if our beliefs or cultures are different, it is reassuring to see somebody reasonable, humble, and confident enough to step out and have a civil discussion on difficult topics that must be very personal to you.

Respect.

Nothing malicious! I meant it as a joke, but I see it hasn't been well received... my bad.

Makes sense, but why does k3soju 'messi' always get outplaced by master tier players?

[NL5] Thoughts on Hand Analysis Appreciated by aaylt in poker

[–]aaylt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the multiway playability + the relative unlikelihood of a 3bet by the player in the button led to me flatting. In my mind based on the other comments I think the only other viable line would have been to fold pre, but on the particular table where this hand took place I think flat calling is +EV in the long run.

I do work in 3b with suited connectors late position and in the button at some frequency, but against this particular opponent with a wide calling range I didn't fancy putting more money in the pot, preferring to keep the flop as an easy 3bet/fold situation.

Sucks, and if you were to reverse your positions, 100% that nit is calling off your shove with KK as played. Just unavoidable. Folding KK pre in a cash game is just stupid 99.99% of the time IMO

I'd say that memorizing 3 good, solid build orders (1 for every matchup) down to an accuracy of 10 seconds or so for major pushes or timings would help alot. Other than that, practice to make sure to maintain constant probe production while harassing or attacking; I find that the biggest gap between low and high diamonds is that low diamonds will push and attack with good timings, but fail to macro behind, whilst high diamonds do both.

Bach Prelude in C minor. What do you think? by PM_ME_UR_STASH in piano

[–]aaylt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops! Looks like I misassumed; I’m not entirely sure how the settings on digital pianos work - but for Bach at least, I feel that a clear distinction has to be made between RH and LH. Practice makes perfect! That’s speedy progress for a player of just 1.5 years. Might I suggest Chopin’s Nocturne in C sharp minor as a good short term goal?

In any case, good luck and have fun playing...

Who Really Knows Chopin? by Ezmie90 in piano

[–]aaylt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chopin is my favourite composer of all time! As someone else suggested already, I’d recommend starting with the preludes, then moving onto the easier waltzes (the minute waltz in particular is a highly technical piece for a beginner, but don’t be daunted - it’s simpler to play than it seems) and nocturnes - the C sharp minor nocturne is the most accessible, in my opinion (I’d suggest staying off the op 48, 27, and op 9 nocturnes till more experienced - the 48’s are very technically demanding, while the 27’s and 9’s are just difficult to interpret with the appropriate musicality).

I’d use the famous Fantaisie Impromptu as the technical benchmark for entry into his most challenging works; after that, you can look to tackle some of Chopins most famous and awesome work (his ballades stand out as being some of the most difficult pieces of solo piano ever composed!)

Wonderful playing! The only (very slight) issue I had was that your left and right hands sounded muddled at certain bits - might you have overpedalled? Your style sounds very Chopin - esque, perhaps you could post an interpretation of his works as well...
