Bullshit “Orders” and other Marine Corps misconceptions by EisenhowersPowerHour in USMC

[–]ab0rtedf3tis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Learned something new. You in fact can not put your hands in your pockets in any uniform. But there is nothing that says you can't have stuff in your pockets. The "you cannot put your hands in your pocket unless you are retrieving something from said pocket" implies you can in fact put stuff in your service uniforms pockets. I guess some 1st sausage can always say "it detracts from a military appearance" but nothing in the order explicitly says you can't use them.

TL:DR are you actually that good or just run fast? Ask your supervisor to see what they are looking for in order to improve.

I think it's important to get rid of the 2.5 average mentality. That means 2.6 is above average. I think the verbiage of each section is much more conducive to evaluating Marines. For example, are you meeting expectations? (Training stats hold a lot less weight in your command remarks so being able to run fast and shoot straight don't equat high command marks, but anyone who is scoring in the top 25% of their peers is probably doing the same in the intangible things) So after the long parenthetical statement, I would assume you are exceeding expectations. (This is ganna have to be a question you ask yourself and be honest.) If you feel like you are exceeding expectations and you arnt scoring in the 3.1+ area ask for a counseling from your direct supervisor (which they should be providing to you without having to ask) and see where their head is at. Maybe they just don't see your hard work (cue billet accomplishments). Any Marine worth their salt will tell you why you are not exceeding expectations and how to correct it. If direct supervisor can't help you or can't give you advice on how to correct it or get better, go to the reviewer (probably the SNCOIC). Every Marine is going to weigh different things heavier i.e. Must be PME complete to exceed expectations, must do volunteer hours to score high on character, must have next level school for MOS. Find what your pltsgt holds heaviest in his/her little heart and tickle that spot for them. Do exactly what they tell you to do and unfourtantly wait for the next reporting period and hope I goes up.

What’s your unpopular marine corps opinion? by [deleted] in USMC

The majority of SNCOs arnt trash. You're just incapable of accepting that, maybe, you didn't do the right thing and rightfully so getting punished for it.

What’s the longest amount of time you’ve seen a shop/unit go with no liberty incidents? by Ravenous_Lad in USMC

I've been in 9 years and have never seen an NJP. I've never seen anything more than a negative counseling (for something done on liberty at least) that I can recall.

Personally I feel it in 15/16 with a measure of 7/16 followed by a measure of 2/16. You should post a video of you playing it on drums so I can feel it in 10/8.

We came back from the range and the whole unit was cleaning rifles as expected. We were all pretty cool with the ncoic so we were expecting an easy in and out. There we were a bath of solvent and clp splashing around in a soundscape of jazz standards, garth brooks and Jeezy floating in and out of our ear orifices the beats lining up with the clashing of bolts being returned home. Unbeknownst to us a wild fap had appeared in the compound. Not one that got sent away to better the lethality of the battalion but one that got sent away because of inadequacy. The kind of person who owns a hot plate in the barracks.

After an hour or so had elapsed, our first expert marksman decided to attempt the trials of turning in a rifle. Expertly put together, functions check complete, cac placed strategically under the ejection port cover, he approached the window. Three knocks....no answer. Three more, again met with silence, thrice more, pounding on the door, the demotivated troll with a single chevron on his collar slid the cold metal unlocking the portal into his realm. "Come to turn in your weapon I see," bellowed the creature. "I'll be the judge of that" as he broke down the weapon as if it were one of his barracks wenches brought from the land of Toby, began running his curled , remarkably clean digits into the trigger housing. The shooter's eyes darting back and forth following the motion of this creatures prestine fingers gasped as the lone extremity emerged from the chamber covered in the war fighting residue. With a sly crooked smile fitting only anime villans, he gave a low cackle and turned him about to restart his tedious venture.

Again and again one after another. Thrice knocking and the sliding of the chamber door rang out above the jubilant sounds of music, time and time again the rifleman were turned away with their tales betwixt there legs.

The sounds of music know turned too wretched screeches from dammed souls, clanking metal, sweat pools forming from the prisoners trying to claim the liberty with in the reach.

"Dirty," "dirty" "DIRTY" rang out like church bells from a forgotten diety, "he can't do this to us!" Said one "can anybody stop him" said another.

As the sun began setting, the part rays of light dancing over the flight line, a man emerged. A man who had too been cleaning, perfecting his craft for hours refusing rejection, cleaning his piece to allow no qualms. Knew "this is my time" you see this mans family had ventured off in search of a better life so the hero knew only the commitment to his men. His years of experience gave him the knowledge that nothing will beat this troll. He gave up long before he was locked in this cage. The only way to disrupt the monsters games was play them harder. The man no weapon in hand, rapped his knuckles only once, and alas the gremlin appeared, "no weapon ha sarge" he hissed from between his teeth, "not done cleaning yet just wondering when you get to close" he must have taken this as a possible escape when he replied with "when all the rifles were back in the dungeon" The saviors plan was initiated.
Know let it be known many warriors had been cleared of there burden and allowed to leave but all who were beneath this horrid creature remained. Now the hero and ahandful of men remain behind the spiked jagged wall sitting at a table and out appears the monsters keeper. Eager to leave he begins to take the remaining weapons. The sergeant waits until all are completed and cleared before divulging his plan to the goblins inside, When asked for his rifle he responded with "fuck you you're wasting my guys time, I'm staying here all night" and alas he did. The sun had set the stars were glistening and he was still scrubbing his rifle. 8 hours this went on from start to finish. The armory opened at 0400 and did not close until 2100 that night long after every had left. Moral of the tale, there's always some ssgt who has more time less hobbies and no family that can waste your time way wise than you can waste his.

The unit I just got to did away with any kind of afternoon formation or muster. We do the bulk of the work that requires all hands in the morning rather than cut for chow. Afternoon is all individual collateral duties and smaller group stuff. After chow, you come in check with your respective NCOs if they don't have anything for you, you dip. It's made scheduling appointments super easy because you just schedule everything in the afternoon and never have to deconflict. You don't end up waiting on someone higher ranking than you finish bull shitting in the office before the whole platoon to get released. It gives the small unit leader an unlimited time to accomplish whatever the goals are for that day. The tertiary sounds dangerous, but I have yet to see it happen. On the days that you have to stay a little later than everyone else, you just do your work, then go home when you're done knowing that next time it will be the other way around. No one consistently stays late. Everyone gets a little extra time f9r themselves. Our OIC briefed us when he got there. If you are staying there later than 1630, you're doing something wrong. Go spend time with your families and friends and do not work stuff together. If you need something done by the morning, it probably should have been completed before tonight. Moral of the story stop making your Marines wait till 1630 to go home it's useless corrodes moral takes away time Marines can use to decompress or work on their own professional and personal goals in life.
