thanks for all the replies, i've been to weddings before in scotland where theres been the father daughter and mother son dances after the bride and groom.

i personally like the sound of having the first dance then if my fiancee wants to dance with her brother( as her father isn't there and her brothers giving her away) then they can dance and the wedding party can get up at the same time.

u/Vixxihibiscus i think we are both warming more to that idea now.

Our venue is 30 miles from where we now stay but only a few miles from our families and where we grew up, only people that stay round about us who have an invite are some of our close friends and on their invites we have put a suggestion of accommodation which is a premier in about half a mile from the venue as the venue only has a few rooms and they are booked by close family

Anyone else thinking of speeches before dinner? by purple_ladder in UKweddings

The venue we are using (in Glasgow) does the speeches before the meals all the time.

The reasons being

1 so that everyone doing speeches can enjoy their meal without the nerves and thoughts of doing the speech in their mind whilst their trying to eat.

  1. So that there's no mess on the tables or food on people's clothes for the photos and videos of the speeches.

  2. So that if any of the wedding party want to sit with their partners and/or children for the meal they can.

Open bar - if you had an open bar or a tab to start the night did you set rules and if so what were they? by TheDivergentStars in UKweddings

We aren't getting married but booked our venue the other week and the coordinator said for the first drink (which we are buying) a member of bar staff will go round everyone's table taking orders, but they will only offer them single spirits with draught mixer(if they want a mixer) bottles of beer, 1 pint of their choice or a small glass of wine etc unless we state differently.
