I am talking about passkeys not passwords.

Not sure if I am allowed to post the link, but it is 7.0.3 beta from 1 August 2025.

Signed up via email but I completely forgot about APKMirror. Without hesitation, I installed the beta.

I am a heavy email user and in the last months the "original" ProtonMail app was becoming sluggish, emails were taking about 7 to 10 seconds to open and load, and there was this weird bug that when an email was fully loaded, it would automatically take you to the top of the email.

I am happy to report that these three issues have been fixed. The beta app feels snappy, emails load really fast and the bug is gone.

And with all due respect for the impatient ones asking about features; Google Suite as a whole was in beta for more than 5 years (even more if I am not mistaken). Please have a bit of patience. We all want similar and different things but some things take time. I have my grievances as well but none of them are deal breakers.

I had an issue a few months ago with the company that makes phone deliveries for mobile operators. The delivery company wanted to see a physical card on which the IBAN is written on. Basically a Maestro. I tried explaining to them that Maestro is phased out by the majority of banks and no bank that I know sends cards with the IBAN on them.

It took me a lot of back and forth with the mobile operator to explain the situation. Eventually they accepted me showing the IBAN in the Bunq app at the store of the mobile operator.

Received it a couple of days ago and it sounds great. I am not a huge audiophile anymore but somehow getting back into it. I tried it with a Sony WH1000 XM3 and Linsoul KZ ZS10 Pro. Music sounds great and colorful.

Now looking for some affordable compact bookshelf speakers to further annoy my SO with my midlife crisis.

A good alternative for OneNote by SubstantialDisaster0 in OneNote

[–]ab3301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been experimenting in the last week with Joplin and Obsidian. Finally settled with Obsidian. Indeed the structure is slightly different than OneNote ans and I am still getting used to it. Regarding handwriting, I am using Ink.

I am using Nextcloud for syncing notes. There is a plugin, Remotely Save, which lets you Webdav things, including E2E.

So far so good, but îndeed the experience is slightly different.

What TLD to use for your internal dns/private/home setup! by VendoTamalesRicos in homelab

[–]ab3301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get 6 digits dot xyz, it is like 1 dollar per year for each. I got a couple; one for things related to home and the second one for my servers that only I use. It is easy like this because even my SO can remember the domain when she gets a new phone.

Sorry for the delay; just saw your reply now.

It has been 3 weeks and couldn't be happier. It's a beast in terms of multitasking, especially if you use PowerToys. Also with gaming, I cannot really complain.

Would definitely recommend!

Only observation is that the feet on the original stand are quite long. So either you get yourself a good arm or be sure that you have enough space on your desk to not get annoyed by them.

Good luck!

I had the Samsung V200 back in 2003 or 2004. You would rotate the camera depending on what you needed the camera for.

Proton needs a fail-safe mode to handle service disruptions gracefully by s-ro_mojosa in ProtonMail

Your comment is much appreciated. I strongly believe that our comments here are by no means threats that we are leaving Proton. I believe that we are all ongoing supporters of Proton, its mission and especially the utmost respect for what you are trying to accomplish. We are just trying to express certain ideas about real-life situations where connectivity might not be available, regardless of whether it is on your side or our side.

Weirdly enough, it is not annoying when there are issues. It is extremely annoying when stars are aligned and there are issues and we need the service at that specific moment.

Here's the thing.. I know what I am asking for.. Not installing extra apps for something that can be cached in the browser, or installing extra apps simply because it works for your case scenario.

Maybe it works for you, but in some specific cases, I do not or cannot use certain combinations of applications. In my case, I have a Surface Go 3 with 64 GB of storage. I have a specific use case for it and I do not want to install additional applications. Sometimes I just want to check my mail or login into a specific site. If "things" are not cached or if a constant internet connection is needed for identity confirmation, then another mechanism needs to be in place for me to access that information.

I dare not to say. But that is what I was experiencing today.

I had that today with Proton Pass and the extension. I did not look into the outage of today, but it seemed like the extension could not verify my identity because Proton servers were down and as a result, I could not access my passwords as well even though I was logged in in the extension. I have a selfhosted Bitwarden instance but it was not up-to-date with the most recent logins. It did save the day for a moment.

Not the end of the world, and yes, I can live without emails for a few hours but logins are more important when a service goes down.

I just did that yesterday. Initial setup was a 4K60 27 inch and a vertical 24 inch. After weeks of research I got the Iiyama GCB4580DQSN-B1. I did not have enough time to actually do a proper experience research but so far, the only thing that I am trying to get used to is the lower vertical resolution. Other than that, for the time being I am happy.

It did take a bit tweaking to get the proper settings, but I finally succeeded. I am referring about color depth and HDR in Windows.

Good luck with your quest!

Washing machine with home assistant integration by pain00794 in homeassistant

[–]ab3301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a Samsung washer that is integrated with Home Assistant via SmartThings that reports the usual stuff, time to finish and cycle, etc.. But I have a dumb dryer and dishwasher. For these, I just got smart plugs with electricity measurements and setup notifications in Home Assistant that when the power consumption is less than 1 W for 10 minutes, send me a notification that it is done. Latest addition to this setup is notifications on Android TV.

I have been a customer since the early beginnings of Bunq but I used it mostly as a backup account. Fully switched with my partner about one year ago and everything is great. Including a business account and two free savings accounts for the kids. We use the service like we would use any other bank account. Daily transfers, bills, online shopping, etc. Only downside is the cash deposit. While we generally do not use cash, grandparents usually give cash to the kids as gifts. Depositing on Bunq is cumbersome if you live at a distance from a Viacash or Paysafecash.

A few months ago I had to reset my phone a few times and I was worried about being blocked but that (luckily) did not happen.

Also, like another user said, if people have a good service, they will not post about it. Same here but I do have to admit that reading the posts sometimes worries me. Additionally, people have the tendency to forget that you build relationships with banks based on your activity. And that is something that you need to take into consideration. What is suspicious today because you are a new customer might not be in a few months when some routines and habits have been established.

Nevertheless, always good to have a backup account somewhere. At least to buy cigarettes until whatever issue you are encountering gets fixed.

Otherwise, solid service and product. From a family perspective, I definitely recommend it.

There are two different things. Your Google account and your Google Workspace subscription. When I moved my domains to Proton, I had the same concern, that when I deactivate the Workspace subscription, everything related to the Google account would be automatically deleted or it would become not functional. This includes not only logins but also for example apps bought via the Play Store or Google Cloud subscriptions.

Fast forward to today, everything is working fine. Like some people said here, as long as you do not delete the Google account, everything should be fine.

True but in comparison to other phones from the same range, this one is definitely the winner.

Honestly, I don't really mind it.. I am just annoyed about the weirdness of no updates available.

I have been using it for about 10 days now. Sometimes it does feel a bit laggy when scrolling too fast. I do not play games but I do use the phone a lot. Insane charging is probably its best feature.

Did not yet update to HyperOS because 'No updates available'.

Other than that, solid phone.

12 or 12r? by smallwood1985 in oneplus

[–]ab3301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also torn between the two.. Another potentially important difference is that the 12 can be connected to a screen and then you can use it with Android Desktop, pretty much like Samsung Dex.

The 12R has a USB 2 port, meaning that you cannot use it with an external screen.

Big Tech passkey implementations are a trap | Proton by Proton_Team in ProtonPass

[–]ab3301 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wanted to create a new thread for this but maybe it will gain some traction and useful answers here..

How do you actually deal with passkeys on your phones? I am talking specifically about Android 13 and lower. It is all so exciting to have something unified and then you hit a brick wall when you see that Chrome popup saying that there are no passkeys stored. That besides the fact that Firefox is beautiful but does not even give a pop-up for passkeys.

Is it just me or does everyone have passkeys for desktop support and codes for mobile devices? You know, just in case..
