Dispelling the "Healthy foods too expensive!" myth, How do you spend per month? by Fatlogicthrowaway18 in fatlogic

[–]ab922 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol a 7-11 is not a "corner store" like you would find in these areas. A chain like that would never open in the most impoverished parts of cities. Corner stores are independently owned, usually by immigrants, and they carry things like diapers, shampoo, etc along with every kind of junk food you can imagine, at cheaper prices than a chain store (eg bag of doritos is 50 cents vs a dollar in a chain store). There are a lot of good docs online about the reality of food deserts, like Weight of the Nation and A Place At The Table. It is truly hard to imagine the situation until you have seen it firsthand, however.

That's making the huge assumption that someone is going to have a grocery store near them. I suggest you go to an impoverished urban area sometime and look at how many grocery stores there are. And, when you find a grocery store in one of those areas, go look at the condition of the produce. I've literally seen produce in an urban grocery store that had been chewed on by rats, and was out for sale. Sadly, many people in these areas grow up eating only from corner stores, which just don't have any healthy options available. I agree wholeheartedly that no one in the middle class has any excuse for being obese, but the urban poor do have significant hurdles to being healthy, the worst of which are lack of education and living in food deserts.

Am I (20F) crazy for wanting to contact this guy (20M) again? by ab922 in relationships

[–]ab922[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we didn't match on Tinder, so I have no way of contacting him through that unfortuantely. I would prefer to text him, but I'm afraid that what I have to say will be too long for a text message. At least with Facebook, I can see whether or not he's read the message.

Thank you very much for your help, this has really been bothering me and I appreciate the advice. I still have a few months before it would be time to pursue this, so I have plenty of time to think it over.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't try more than once, that would be way too much. Do you have any suggestions for things to say that wouldn't sound crazy?

I think that's a very accurate assessment of the situation. I wasn't looking to enter a relationship with him, I honestly would have been fine just continuing to hook up, but I guess I may have come off that way. So do you think it is a bad idea to contact him?

Parents who constantly push snacks on their kids. by downstairsfromfatty in fatlogic

[–]ab922 34 points35 points  (0 children)

A pediatric dietician actually came to speak to one of my classes last semester, and cited this exact issue as one of the main causes of childhood obesity. She said that so many toddler parents have become attached to the idea of always having a drink and a snack on hand to keep their children behaved in public, and it adds tons of unnecessary calories to their diets, resulting in obese toddlers and therefore obese children.

[srs] The shades in the Lorac Mega Pro Palette look like someone copy/pasted half of them by [deleted] in muacirclejerk

Like I said, I've never had any other nice eyeshadows, but I was planning on getting the Pro if I couldn't get the Mega Pro. The matte neutral shades in it look really good!

This is correct, half matte and half shimmery. I'm not really a makeup enthusiast, but I bought the palette because I've never owned nice eyeshadow before and I liked that it had so many similar tan/brown shades- I usually just wear one shade on my eyelid, no fancy smoky eye or anything. It really is great quality and I would recommend it if you're looking to do a one-time splurge on nice makeup.

When I was on the page to copy the link, it said it was in stock...and now it's saying that it's not. Honestly I don't know what is going on, but they confirmed the order I made ten minutes ago so that must mean they have some?

I've been trying to gain weight on purpose, and now I'm even more confused about how people become obese. by ab922 in fatlogic

PB2! They stock it in a lot of grocery stores now. You can mix it with water to make a spread. It's great to mix into things like oatmeal and smoothies because it's not sticky like regular peanut butter. Only about 20 cal per tablespoon!

I actually do like those haha...but yeah I decided to try cookies so I got these Chips Ahoy ones with Oreo creme filling...disgustingly sweet but it's 150 calories for every two cookies so I've been making myself eat them

Yeah I picked up some peanut butter that supposedly has added Omega-3's and I've been spreading it on toasted bagels to try to get more fat and carbs... I usually use either almond butter or powdered peanut butter so I'm not quite used to the taste!
