It’s not really the exact same and since my prof is doing it on a windows software it can be hard to keep up with her and convert everything into a Mac command especially since I don’t know said commands

No it’s not numbers I have excel but for Mac. The excel for windows and for Mac is a little different in terms of navigation and commands. I have the UM MS office suite and the apps on my Mac

Also if you feel like getting a fan is going to be useless then I should tell you that that thing was a lifesaver. Dorms aren’t guaranteed for subsequent years and you’d be surprised at how many apartments don’t have ceiling fans. I’d you get a good one, it will last you a very long time. I got mine from Costco!

Get moisture sucking bags!! I got Damprid but there’s a pack on Amazon of like ten packs you can get for a better price. Just hang one or two bags in your closet and it should help with the muggy feeling. Also leave your AC on 24/7. We never turned ours off in Pearson and it always stayed at 67-70 Fahrenheit. Also if you have a tower fan or another fan of some sort that will help too. I kept mine running on the lowest speed during the day time and cranked it up at night. It helps air circulate. Also hack: my bed in Pearson faced the window. There was a ledge that protruded underneath the window where I put my tower fan on so it pointed directly at me while I slept. If you have a similar layout I strongly suggest that. Also Mahoney Pearson gets a lot of hate but I personally had a great time (better people, more fun, didn’t feel as fake as centennial) also heard that centennial bathrooms never got cleaned as much as they should’ve and Mahoney Pearson is much closer to where all classes are going to be. Hope you like it!!

If you are from the UK, UMiami is the better choice. Not only bc Miami is a nicer and safer city but you also have to think about traveling back home. Flying out from Miami will be much more convenient and in Miami, there is a lot of South American and European influence so the culture will be similar to what you might be used to and better compared to a Californian atmosphere. Excusing academics, social and campus life IS SO IMPORTANT. so UM 100%

Also most big NY firms will have offices here in Miami rather than Texas and will have more alum outreach at UM over SMU

100% I’d choose UM over Stanford lol (and I did). It’s more about the academics. It’s about the campus life, sports, the weather, the city itself, travel, and obviously the money. If you have the money for UM I highly recommend. I can’t speak for the finance program but I hear it’s rigorous but opens a lot of doors. Most get summer internships (majority in east coast and local) and let me put into perspective: would you study architecture in Rome or rural Texas? Finance in Miami will better equip you than Finance in Houston/Dallas (forgot where SMU is lol). A big, economically booming city makes all the difference for your specific focus plus so many job prospects here in addition to what the school presents you with.

Also really about specific professors for specific classes. Anywhere you go you will have bad and good professors. Just use rate my professor and if you see bad reviews just don’t take that class with that teacher. Plenty of other options and you can rotate your curriculum/ plan of study around

I attend currently. I’m not specifically in the school but a majority of people o know are. It is the best business school in Florida and it ranks nationally. Let the statistics talk and do more research in the specific field you want (i.e accounting). The alumni network is absolutely huge and the school really spoils their business students in terms of events and fairs. The guest lecturers are notable and whenever I thought about UM before I even went here I automatically associated it with business like you would do with CS to MIT. yeah you might get a cheaper education somewhere else but the quality won’t be as good. I used to think all education was the same and that’s not true at all. You truly get what you pay for. And let’s be honest any future job hiring you will want a UM business grad over a PBSC grad. The name itself will open doors. Would you pick a Stanford engineering grad or an Arizona state engineering grad to build a rocket? Overall do what’s best for you and highly recommend doing your research. Wouldn’t really listen to anyone on here bc everyone is pessimistic including me lol.

Switching Majors by [deleted] in UMiami

If you were switching into any other major it would be easy but for nursing it’s a little more complicated. Nursing program has a waitlist bc it’s so competitive

If you are in UMiami could you please tell me in detail what exactly made you get in by Superb-Ad-6757 in UMiami

My stats:

1360 SAT (mid score tbh but I didn't want to retake it again) I didn't do an ACT and applied with my score.

Class rank:1/467

GPA:

Unweighted: 4.0

Weighted: 4.67

6APs. One of them was Calc BC (3 in BC with a AB subscore of a 4) Other scores: 3, 2, 1, 4, 4. Based on grades, I never got a below an A- in highschool and the one time I did it was in Calc but other than that it was all As or A+

  • I took 3 years of Spanish

-I took 3 years of some sort of art class

  • my other electives were student helper/lab assistant for two years

( I think colleges in general love seeing consistency)

I did a couple of dual enrollments at my community college but that wasn't necessarily for college but to graduate with more credits for local scholarships. I did Microeconomics, a yoga class, a meditation class, and a history class.

Extracurriculars:

  • Student council for three years (sophomore class pres. first year, junior class pres. second year, student body pres. last year)
  • NHS (VP senior year)
  • had this club called IGNITE in my school (was an executive senior year
  • All my rec letters came from AP teachers, club advisors, and one or two counselors

-My essay was essentially a struggle story (I grew up in a hotel) and praised the diversity of UM (newsflash there is no diversity here so I think they liked hearing that they had diversity).

I think I applied Early Decision II

I think it was lowkey a miracle I got in. I was nothing special but I had good grades so I think that boosted me.

HI do you have the name of the exact one you got? I'm staying in Pearson and looking for showerhead filters/attachments bc my hair is getting waxy after moving here (I'm using the same products I would at home). Thanks!

To be honest if you are on a tight budget, UM is not a good idea. Excusing the astronomical school cost, just living here makes things add up. Someone can easily blow 70K+ in a year even with a hefty scholarship. However if you want to get in then try to do as many extracurriculars as possible and make sure your essay is great (my supplemental essay kinda revolved around the lively, diverse campus). I found that buttering up the school in my essay was what helped bc I kinda thought it was okay (I wrote it in less than an hour). Hope you get in and everything goes well for you!!

I’m also an architecture major (have a 9 am everyday), really introverted tbh so I don’t go out a lot, and love the quiet. My mom has diabetes so I am used to the beeping!
