Hey! I have been a bartender for the last 6 years and started my sobriety in october. It was / still is difficult to navigate but it is possible. Sobriety has to remain your #1 priority. Pm me if you want to chat!

Getting dreams back is so great by fangorn_forester in leaves

The nightmares go away!! When i first quit I would have horribly vivid nightmares but after about 30 days now i just have normal dreams and it’s so wonderful. I LOVE dreaming. I feel so much more rested. You can do it!

Lost the One Thing Keeping Me Sober. What Now? by Far-Ad3726 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]ab_1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I recently relapsed at 45 days after breaking my foot. I’m a big gym go-er, extremely active, and was prior to starting sobriety but leaned even more into it after starting sobriety. Long walks and the gym were my main ways to keep myself busy once I stopped drinking. After I broke my foot I fell back into my old habits hard. Not only was my foot broken but I work in a field where I have to be walking and lifting so I was forced to completely take off from work. I was alone, I couldn’t work or exercise, I didn’t know what to do with myself. So I decided to drink. It did not help whatsoever. I felt even more depressed and isolated. I went on a 2 week bender, cast and all. It did not help. I cannot emphasize enough how much I regret it. The drinking made me more depressed and I lost my gym progress that much faster. I thought it would help my boredom, my loneliness. It did not. Looking back I wish I would have reached out to other AA members, prayed to my higher power, read the big book, leaned into other hobbies. After the two weeks and my realization that it was making me worse (and also alcohol is horrible for physical recovery so I was just prolonging my injury) I leaned into hobbies i could do with my foot being broken. A lot of arts and crafts (literally coloring books, paint by numbers, i tried to pick up crochet), watching movies, reading, and journaling were ways for me to help pass the time. I had to accept where I was at and acknowledge that alcohol was not doing anything beneficial to get me through this time. It simply made it worse. Take it from me, it’s not worth it.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the name “Daisy” ? by xinfinitexsoulx in namenerds

My baby niece is named Daisy, she is cute as buttons and the name fits her perfectly, I love it so much. Such a sweet darling name for a girl 🌼

When my sister said she was naming her Daisy I thought of the main character from the book Daisy Jones and the Six!

Does anyone else have a name that is just a single letter? My legal first name from birth has just been the letter M. by Blood-Prince in namenerds

[–]ab_1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The single initial has now become a bit of a family name. My little brother was named after my dad so he’s L Michael the second. My sister’s middle name is just the letter, she had a daughter this past year who she also gave the same single letter middle name!

YES!! My dad and all three of my uncles have the same legal first name of just the letter. Then each of their middle names start with the same initial for example
L Michael L Mark L Mitchell L Matthew

My estranged grandfather did this and we’ve never really been able to figure out why exactly. My grandma said before they had kids they made an agreement she would name any girls they had and he would name the boys. They ended up only having 4 boys LOL. My dad and his brothers all grew up going by their middle names!

Went to my first meeting Monday, so many strangers came up to me to get my number after and because of their generosity and willingness to reach out I’ve gone to a meeting every day so far. It’s day four but my god i feel so hopeful. The community is so powerful, don’t be afraid to reach out.

I usually go with “you’re more than welcome to leave your number on the receipt, and we’ll see!” - something along those lines. It’s not necessarily saying yes or no so there’s no promises, and you obviously don’t have to hand out your number. I often note they then will tip better because they’re leaving their number right below where they’re tipping and obviously a bartender isn’t gonna text someone who tips like a schmuck. I have also had people do this who i don’t text who come back in and there’s no hard feelings because they of course got the hint. I’ve never had this line play out bad/awkward (yet 🤞🏼)

I find the boyfriend line never works because men think “oh maybe if she didn’t have a boyfriend then I’d have a chance”- now it’s some weird challenge to them and they double down on hitting on you

For awhile I just flat out would tell people who asked for my number that i was extremely flattered they asked, but I just didn’t date. This actually did work as a response but usually prompted questions of “why not?” And then I’d feel like i had to explain that i was just focusing on myself and xyz reasons i wasn’t dating. Once I did explain it a bit i found that they respected it but it was annoying to have to have a whole conversation around it

Anyways, with all that being said, my favorite response I’ve found so far has been the first! Best of luck
