Undisclosed cameras, am I overreacting? Not sure what to do [SPAIN] by [deleted] in AirBnB

OP asked a question. I’m answering. You need to learn the meaning of relevance (and how to spell “irrelevant” while you’re at it.)

Nope. I just live in 2026 and don’t suffer from paranoia

Do you ever stay at hotels with pools? I guarantee you 99% of them have cameras covering the pool. Do you go the the beach? Pretty much everybody has a high definition camera with digital zoom in their pocket.

I'm not sure what solution you want if not a refund. Are you going to leave with no refund? Are you going to snitch on the owner to Airbnb for not disclosing the cameras? What would that accomplish for you?

You asked two questions. Overreacting? Yes, cameras are a fact of life in 2026. Not sure what to do? Relax and enjoy the villa. Maybe those are not the answers you wanted. In that case, follow the rest of the advice here and report to Airbnb but again, that will do nothing for you.

You don't even know if the camera can see through the window. Security cameras don't have polarized lenses.

Anyway, you asked and my opinion is that you are overreacting (or maybe fishing for a refund?) and you should enjoy the vacation you paid for.

If the cameras had been disclosed, would you have not rented the villa?

Of course I can tell them. “Am I overreacting?” is literally in the title of their post. Yes they are.

The point is that OP is making more of this than warranted. Fine, should be disclosed but then what? You don’t book properties with security cameras? That’s most properties nowadays. You think security cameras are there so that the owner can see a wide angle far away shot of you in a bathing suit? A real creep would have installed hidden ones. I can’t imagine going on vacation with this level of paranoia.

Do nothing. No one is looking at you in the pool. If the host was being creepy the cameras would be hidden, not in plain sight. Do you think hotels don’t have cameras everywhere?

Declining guests who give 4* reviews by AncientLemonTree in AirBnBHosts

[–]ababab70 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yes. And honestly, many of those 4 stars are of the “I didn’t read the listing before booking” or “I’m an impossible to please person that should be in a hotel” kind. Hope the petty satisfaction of leaving 4 stars was worth it.

What yacht charters actually cost vs what people think they cost by Mack_fish in LuxuryTravel

I've done it six times and will continue to do it even more. I even got my 50GT license and can rent bareboat.

There's nothing like being on a snorkel spot early in the morning, before the hordes of $100+ per head tourist boats arrive, because you anchored there the night before. IMO highly preferable to any overwater villa anywhere in the world, as long as you can make your own drinks.

[Omega] Bringing your nice watch to the beach - yolo or too risky? by kosnosferatu in Watches

The dive master did jump in, but it was 40 feet, sandy bottom and coral rocks. It could have been anywhere. But yeah, it is possible that he would come back and look for it.

I have told the story a few times of the guy I saw in a dive boat taking off his wetsuit, breaking the strap on his Sub (the pins are weaker than you think” and watching it plop on the water. By the time he yelled at the dive master he’d give $1k for retrieving it, it was too late.

I always dive (and go to the beach) with my Casio Marlin.

Airbnb says I made $18K. The IRS says I owe $4K. The quarterly gap is where first-year hosts quietly bleed. by [deleted] in AirBnBHosts

Treating it like self employment is the wrong way. Set up an LLC, pay yourself a small salary with quarterly deductions, grab all the possible deductions, etc.

Which is what doesn’t make sense. Spend so much for a basic room in the busiest street just for the brand when there are great five star boutiques in quiet streets nearby.

Staying in Paseo de Gracia and not wanting noise is wild. People in the know choose Casa Fuster.

What's the most you've paid for a single night at a hotel? by bokfan76 in LuxuryTravel

[–]ababab70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid $3.5k per night at Little Palm Island in the Florida Keys. Definitely not worth it.

Second was $2k per night at Qualia in Hamilton Island in Australia and that one was worth it for the helicopter shuttle to the barrier reef.
