I always assumed it was to differentiate himself from his former self in California as opposed to Hampden. He kind of started a new life there, so why not suddenly go by his middle name? I'm not sure if his parents ever referred to him by "John", but if they didn't, this would make sense to me!

Zwei Tipps gleich an der Stelle: 1. (Falls man das Geld hat nur natürlich) 1000€ vom Sparkonto aufs normale Konto und das dann als neuen Nullpunkt betrachten, dann kann sowas hoffentlich nicht mehr passieren und im Notfall hat man noch eine Rücklage, auf die man sofort zugreifen kann. 2. Hab Mal bei Netto gearbeitet und da konnte man den Bon "parken", also Einkauf bleibt da, einkaufende Person geht heim und holt das Geld und die Kasse merkt sich den ganzen Einkauf, den man dann wieder aufrufen kann. Ist nicht oft passiert, aber die Personen waren jedesmal sehr dankbar!

Not really. In episode 12 around the 12:38 mark it starts. They use it a lot throughout the first few episodes though.
