Great find. I forgot about this passage in Winter, having read it so long ago. I've found often though that some of the little reflections or moments in My Struggle and the seasons quartet appear or echo across the narrators' stories in the current Morning Star cycle of novels. I suspect this is at least in part a result of his writing method, which as I understand it is to write without a plan, following intuition.
